Blues Garage Hannover December 7, 2002

It was Saturday and I enjoyed another great performance by the Peer Gynt band in Hannover at the Blues Garage. That venue is located in the industrial area from Isernhagen, a rather rural part of Hannover. The wind was icy and itchy, snow had fallen, and the ground was extremely slippery. Thus, I was happy as I finally reached the Blues Garage. As I walked through the door at 8.00 p.m., I heard familiar sounds, the band was just doing the sound check. Listening to that, I had a look around, and I discovered the most beautiful venue I've ever seen, including the gallery upstairs. It's lovingly equipped in American style. You can't get a better place to enjoy a great gig. There's something for anyone, comfy chairs for those want them, a big area to stand but also bar tables and bar stools in between. All people were very nice, this all was a great atmosphere to me. Even before the gig started, it was clear that this was going to be a good night.

And then, the guys came on stage, and delivered us a breathtaking show. They started out with the snappy instrumental piece
Freddies Shuffle. Right from the beginning, the mood of the band, as well as the audience, was extremely cheerful. Even a guy had brought along a Norwegian flag and wagged it constantly, what Peer noticed as well. We heard then the great songs To Be Your Man and I Can Tell. Each and every moment it didn't seem to stop, the band giving a performance as if their lives depended on it, everyone had tons of fun. At one point, it seemed that a number of people thought that it would be the right time, and they started to dance. The entire venue really became a big party. I was moving around taking pictures, and had an excellent close view of everything that happened on stage, enjoying every aspect of performing. The guys on stage were as well enjoying themselves with loads of smiles.

Peer said: "Here's something that would probably be put on my next album", and then, they played the brilliant song
I Aint Beggin'. I can hardly wait for his next album! The night went on magically, as they presented us a pretty impressive and extended version of Tell Me. There were lots of sort of jamming in between, and Peer was bantering with the crowd. That song segued into the number Trouble, to complete that magnificent performance. The band was really in high spirit, as well as the crowd who showed its enthusiasm with lots of applause and shouting during and after that. For a short break, the band left then the stage.

After about 15 minutes, they reappeared on stage, and the magic began once more! They started their second set cool with
Please Please Babe, and continued with Homegrown Juice, the great song about the homemade Norwegian Moonshine. When they then played Suzy Q, the enthusiastic audience sometimes clapped their hands along with the song. They have always kept creating a feeling as if we were a part of their performance. It was a great moment when Lars took his bass solo, and then it turned to BP's drum solo. Both did an excellent job in showing us their talent. As we all were very impressed, they got a huge applause. The show went on and on with high energy, and many amazing musical moments. Before we knew, these astounding guys took it into the last encore, the beautiful song Good Lord. Under rousing applause and cheers, the band left the stage.

We all had a tremendous time, all sounded so wonderful, the band was such inspiring. All the songs were delivered with great passion by the band, and I certainly enjoyed the whole thing. The energy, the raw power coming from the stage, the fun, the atmosphere, and of course the great music, all this made a fantastic night. Being completely stunned, I stood alone for a while to think about what all had happened this night. But then the guys hung around to talk with the fans. I asked Peer for the play list, and I was happy that all three artists put their autographs on it. When they already had left the place, I still had a lot of fun there far into the night, and nice people luckily got me a lift to my hotel.
