10.0 Curriculum
Candidates must be able to identify, evaluate, and use curriculum
technology resources as applicable. Candidates must also understand
the
terms and goals of the NC Computer Skills Curriculum.
10.1 List the Computer Skills Curriculum to identify what students should know/be able to do (within content and grade level).

Profile for Technology Literate Students by end of Grade 2
Lesson Plans with use of computer:
Here is a lesson plan that involves
using the internet to find weather forecasts. Students learn how
to follow links and find the needed information while being safe of the
internet.
There is also an introductory power point
about the different forms of precipitation that goes with the lesson.
This was used to help introduce the topic of different types of weather
to the students.
Reflection:
For our students to succeed in today's high
speed world, it is imperative that we as teachers teach our students what
they need. The competency standards help to guide us to the things
that we need to teach. In using these standards, we are able to offer
our students to the things that they need so that they can be successful
citizens. These standards are ever changing and we must constantly
keep up to date with them so that our students can succeed. Technology
requirements are also very important. In our society, everything
is moving toward higher technology standards and it is important for our
students to leave our classrooms knowing these skills. We need to
keep our own personal knowledge up to date and use these new techniques
within our teaching. Above are some examples I have used to integrate
this technology into my current classroom environment.

10.2 List/Use school television resources that support the grade
and content curriculum.
Evidence / Artifact:
Here is a self-made video that that I will use to introduce the idea of Matter to my students.
Here are some helpful web pages that give information and schedules of educational programs .
Reflection:
It is important that as teachers we use TV
in the most effective way possible. TV is a huge part of our students
lives today, it is available in most homes and is something that most students
can easily relate to. If we use our television resources appropriately
then we can quickly catch the attention of our students and offer a fun
and interesting way to present new information. However, we have
to be careful not to overuse these resources and to not rely on them fully.
Many of these resources are also under copyright laws that teachers must
be knowledgeable about. Many of the web sites that are listed above
can help with issues such as these.
It is also good to know how to make personal videos
that can address subjects that are difficult to locate video resources
about. Knowing how to make these types of videos can make the
subject more personal to the students as they are seeing their teacher
on the TV rather than unfamiliar people. You can also transfer this
knowledge to the students and allow them to make personal videos about
subjects they are most interested in. Using a resource such as TV that
is easily available in most places is beneficial to both students and teachers.

10.3 Access resources (as available) for planning instruction available
via telecommunications (e.g., experts, lesson plans, authentic data, curriculum
materials).

Reflection:
As a teacher it is very important for you to utilize everything around
you. There is no possible way for a teacher to know everything or
to keep up to date with everything. When you use experts, they can
help you with much of the information needed for lessons that are up to
date. In the field of science where things are constantly changing
it is essential that you use these resources so that you give your students
correct information. It is also important for you to be able to help
a child discover an answer to a question by using e-mail and internet resources.
If they are able to search and ask others about a question they are much
more likely to remember the answer later. Keeping in contact with
experts also offers unique opportunities for guest speakers to come to
your classroom and share their work with your students. Newsgroups
and Listservs are also another way to create the learning opportunity for
your students. Knowing where these sites are at makes it easy to
access them quickly so that you can guide students to the best possible
place to find an answer. Having these resources opens many new doors
for you and your students.
By having information that is self created and connected to grade level standards you are offering students an opportunity to see what they are learning in use. Students can even help you to expand on these applications as a class lesson and they can see where their personal thinking fits in the larger picture. These are creations that can be manipulated by either the teacher or the student making them an important learning tool on a variety of levels.

10.4 Locate, evaluate, and select appropriate teaching/learning
resources and curriculum materials for the content and grade level, including
computer based products, videotapes and discs, primary documents and artifacts,
texts, reference books, literature and other print sources.
Evidence / Artifact:
Here is a unit plan on matter that was created for second grade. This unit incorporates sources from a variety of resources including instructional software, videos, experts, web sites, and listservs. .
Here is a list of books that I think would be helpful in teaching math at a variety of levels.
Here is a list of web sites where I can find different items that would be helpful for a teacher.
Reflection:
It is very important for a teacher to have a large variety of resources in the classroom and to know where to find these resources. This is important for every subject and every type of work that is completed in the classroom setting. Having different types of materials helps the teacher to reach the needs of all the learners that are in the classroom. There are a variety of learning styles and having these different types of resources for the students to use, assures that all of those styles are met. When creating a unit plan it is a positive feature to have resources from a variety of places and to know where you can find these types of items. No single item should be used in isolation, all lessons and units can benefit from having a large variety of resources. It is important that the increasing technology is used in the classroom as well as to locate items that would be useful. Having the additional technology that is available now helps to ensure that all students have what they need to be successful in the classroom, therefore, it is important that teachers use it.
