11.0 Subject Specific Knowledge
Candidates must understand and demonstrate proficiency in building
delivering technology-enhanced curriculum that is content and grade-level
specific.
11.1 List/Use technology resources to facilitate curriculum delivery where applicable and appropriate.
Evidence / Artifact:
Here is a lesson plan that I have created that uses a web quest about matter for the students to complete.
Here is a lesson plan that has the students use on-line resources to help introduce a unit on matter. A smart board is also incorporated into this lesson.
Here is an outline of several other lessons for a unit plan on matter. The majority of these lessons will incorporate technology of some type.
Reflection:
Until recently it was very difficult to incorporate
technology into lessons. However, in the current day and age it is
imperative that as teachers we incorporate technology consistently.
Technology will surround our students as they grow older, therefore, we
need to use lessons that teach them how to use this technology comfortably.
As technology becomes more cost effective it will be easier to use it daily
in your classroom. However, you must use it in ways that are relevant
and appropriate for the given lessons. Students are interested in
technology and we should use this type of curiosity to enhance our lessons.
Teaching technology with other subjects allows students to see real life
applications of the technology. From these applications students
will be able to excel in the demanding work environment they will soon
be facing.

11.2 List/Use media and technology to present the subject so that
it is comprehensible to others.
Evidence / Artifact:
Here is a newsletter that introduces a
unit on matter. The unit will be incorporating a variety of technology
features.
*NOTE: This newsletter was created using Microsoft Publisher.
You will need this program to open the newsletter.
Here is a self-made video that is used to introduce the topic of matter to the students in my classroom. It will also be available on a classroom web site so that parents may view it.
Here is a power point I used to introduce different types of precipitation to second grade.
Here is a sample web site I might create for use for my classroom
Reflection:
It is important to use different types of technology
to present material in comprehensible manners. This is especially
true when communicating with parents and others in the community.
Most parents want to know exactly what their child will be doing and having
a simple way to convey this to them using technology can be helpful.
By using technology you are also utilizing eye catching strategies that
interest everyone. Using the available technology allows parents
to stay up to date with what their child is doing without having to come
to the classroom. Many times it could be difficult for a parent to
come to the classroom. Having resources such as newsletters and web
sites that are available outside of school hours can be convenient for
these parents.
Students from all ability levels benefit by having
information presented in a variety of ways. By using different types
of technology to convey the information you are assuring that all learning
styles are met and that the information is presented in a way that encourages
learning for all students. These materials can also be self-made
and can be completely relevant to whatever you are teaching at the time.
Many times technology can aid in the understanding and comprehension of
a certain topic. This should be our goal as teachers, to make sure
all students receive information in a way that fits them.

11.3 List/Use technology based tools that are specific to the content
and grade level and that facilitate teaching strategies as available and
appropriate.
Evidence / Artifact:
Here is an on-line web site that has many different interactive calculators that students can use: Martindales On-line Calculators.
The name translation calculator can be used in Social Studies to learn about other cultures and their traditions.
The weather channel on-line has many different interactive activities that students can use to find out weather patterns around the world.
Reflection:
With all the technology based tools that are available
to students and teachers it is important that we put them to use inside
of our classrooms. The majority of these resources can be located
free of charge with a simple internet connection. Technology tools
are available for any subject or topic you may be teaching. Using
technology tools that enhance your teaching strategies is a great way to
make sure all students in the classroom are getting what they need for
success. Using technology tools provides them with the knowledge
they will need as they continue their school career. These tools
can generally be found with simple searches on the internet and most are
simple enough for even young children to use. These tools allow students
to collect data rather than having it given to them thus facilitating inquiry
learning. By allowing our students to use technology tools we encourage
their learning and prepare them for future success. There are also
other great tools to use in classrooms that might be more difficult to
obtain due to cost. Many of these tools can be used for experiments
and other data collection activities.
