Welcome Reception
(January)

Visitors will be treated to a traditional welcome upon arrival at the airport, seaport and railway station. Lovely girls will extend the "Bunga Telor" to the visitors with captivating smiles and hospitality.

Thaipusam
(January)

This Hindu festival of purification is held annually along the streets of Georgetown to Waterfall. This is a festival where Hindus from all walks of life pay homage to Lord Subramaniam. Tourists flock to the Penang Waterfall Temple to witness the colourful kavadis carried by devotees with skewers pierced through their bodies as penance. Vows are also fulfilled by breaking coconuts during the procession of the silver chariot.

Chap Goh Meh
(February/March)

Celebrated on the 15th night of the first month of the Chinese Lunar calendar. The highlight of the festival is the orange throwing ceremony in which local maidens throw oranges into the sea for would-be suitors to catch.

Penang Floral Festival
(May)

Highlight of the festival is the bright display of flowers at the KOMTAR Mall. A colourful festival inspired by the natural setting of Penang's most popular floral garden.

Penang Bridge Run
(May/June)

An exhilarating run from dawn right across a picturesque landmark, the Penang Bridge. This popular annual 21km run has been attracting thousands of local and overseas participation.

Penang International Triathlon
(May)

An annual event featuring a grueling non-stop swimming-cycling-running race which attracts hundreds of hopefuls to Penang.

Penang International Dragon Boat Festival

This watersport is gaining worldwide popularity as seen from the increasing number of internatinal teams participating each year in the sea off Batu Uban.

City On Parade
(July)

A week-long extravaganza of food fairs, handicraft exhibitions, street concerts, cultural shows and parades.

Penang Beach Carnival
(July)



The one-week carnival features food promotions, inter-hotel competitions, seaside festivities, cultural shows, fashion parades, telematches and parties.

Hungry Ghost Festival
(August)

Operas, puppet shows and other performances are staged on streets and open spaces to appease the hungry ghosts.

Penang Food Festival
(August)

Offers visitors the oppurtunity to sample the best of Penang cuisine, learn a bit about its history and watch various dishes being prepared.

Penang Cultural Festival
(August)

A month-long festival to celebrate Penang's multi-racial heritage featuring various performances from different cultural group.

National Day Celebration
(August)

A celebration to mark the independence of Malaysia. Many events have been lined up to celebrate this event. The events include Natinal Day Parade, National Day Run (Larian Merdeka) and other district level programmes aimed to increase public awareness and participation.

Lantern Festival
(September)

Mid-Autumn festival characterized by brightly lit lanterns in all shapes and colors. Also associated with the moon cake, a sweet delicacy, which once carried secret messages inciting rebellion in ancient China.

(October)

The much sought after Penang Bargain will turn Penang into a land splashed with discounts and special sales. The period of a truly "shoppers paradise" awaits the local and international purchasers. Save your money intact for this search and grab shopping.

Pesta Pulau Pinang
(November/December)

Features an annual trade fair and exhibition. Carnival rides, band performances, games and cultural shows lend a festive air. This month long festival will be held from the end of November until the end of December. It is one of the main attractions that Penang has every year during which the trade and exhibition site in Sungai Nibong will be turned into a funfair for the young and old alike. A variety of cultural entertainment and sports events have been lined up which include art exhibitions, concerts, bowling tournaments, dragon boat contest, chingay and lots more.

Starwalk
(December)

Starwalk, reputed to be the premier sporting event has attracted a large following from all over, among the young and old. This Penang's most popular community sporting event attracts more than 10000 participants. Besides grand prizes, there are also live entertainments.
