| After two heartbreaking second place finishes, the 1962 Patriots were shapping up to be a solid defensive team that is complimented by a scrappy offense. With the Houston Oilers struggling, the Patriots seemed poised to assume first place, but offensive struggles saw their record dip to 5-5 after 10 weeks and again found them in second place in the East. The Patriots would seize the lead in the division with a 17-7 victory over the bIlls and were poised to win their first division title before a 35-3 loss to Kansas City set-up a playoff game with Buffalo. The Patriots would defeat the Bills 26-8 and claim their first division title and trip to the Championship game. The joy of Bills game was short lived as the San Diego Chargers throttled the Patriots 51-10 for the AFL Championship. |
