Meeting Guidelines & Rules
What is PFLAG?
It is a place for anyone to come who has questions, concerns, or who
just need reassurance.
It is for people who feel they have knowledge
to share with others that they feel may help
someone else. We welcome
all people and we accept everyone who comes, whether you speak
or not. Sometimes the most helpful thing is to simply sit and listen. PFLAG is not just for parents, but all family members, friends or members
of the general public who need support or who are simply curious and want
to have a better understanding about the people, themselves and those around them.
It is by no means for only gays and lesbians. It is
for anyone of any sexual orientation.
Rules & Guidelines
We ask that you please follow a few simple guidelines while attending the
meetings.
1. Confindentiality - What is said in this room stays in this room. People are coming to talk about
issues that may be sensitve to them. Please remember that everyone is
in a different stage of acceptance and understanding.
2. First names only -This helps to give people a sense of security. And we want everyone to feel
safe about sharing. If you feel you need to, you do not even have to
use your name, a middle name or no name at all is fine.
3. Silence is OK - You don't have to speak if you don't want to, we encourage everyone to share
if they wish, but we welcome those who simply need to hear advice, and think.
4. Respect - Please give everyone the respect you want to recieve.
5. Speaking - When someone is speaking please do not interrupt. Give everyone the chance
to get out everything that they have on their minds. You can reply to
it when they are done. This also shows respect to those who are willing
to share.
6. Allow others to speak - Share what you want to, but then give others the chance to speak as well. Remember
those who wish to speak want to be heard just as much as you.
