Enlightening articals reguarding DogFood Ingredients, the Chemical Ethoxyquin in pet food and why the best thing you can do for your pet is add fresh foods!
It is my experience with raising dogs and cats that they tend to be picky eaters. It is so hard to find a food that they will eat and that is good for them. Generally they are more attracted to the food that smells the sweetest or tastes the best and thats usually a food that is laden in a grease like substance to add a taste and smell that is irresistibly enticing. However unlike a more natural food that type of smell or taste is usually not present. Rancid greasy smell. Eukanuba, Iams and even Science diet has this smell and greasy unhealthy feel. We buy into there marketing scheme cause we should trust what they say right? Not really, They know a large % of there customers just don't give a hoot about looking into whats really in there food. So they just bet on ya buying it just casue they tell ya its balanced and healthy. Of course your pet will eat it, thats the point. "My pet loves it, he/she eats it" so I will continue to buy more and more and in ignorance not of my own fault I will slowly kill my very own family member!!! Any type of processed food is NEVER BALANCED. Just take a human diet for instance. We need to add all sorts of things to keep it balanced and eating at macdonalds or having tv dinners all the time just wont do it!!
I find with a more natural food they eat what they need not what they want. And spoiling is fun but not when it will jeopardize there health and casue them pain and slow death in the long run.
Chicken Meal, Corn Gluten Meal, Herring Meal, Lamb Meal, wheat gluten, rice gluten. Please select TERMS to read and view what Gluten and meal actually are.
We do see many of these ingredients in many pets foods even the more "Natural Foods: tend to contain some of these. It is vital to look over the ingredients close when selecting a food. However I have not found many supporting facts whether to prove "meal" and or "Gluten" to be damaging to the health of the pet. Meal does appear to have very little nutritional value however and will increase the amount of food your pet eats for the fact there body lacks nutrients. The body is starving for vitamins so the pets must eat more of the food to compensate so this must not be the main source in the commercial food if you wish to give your pet a balanced diet.
"Meat and poultry meals, by-product meals, and meat-and-bone meal are common ingredients in pet foods. The term "meal" means that these materials are not used fresh, but have been rendered. What is rendering? Rendering, as defined by Webster's Dictionary, is "to process as for industrial use: to render livestock carcasses and to extract oil from fat, blubber, etc., by melting." Home-made chicken soup, with its thick layer of fat that forms over the top when the soup is cooled, is a sort of mini-rendering process. Rendering separates fat-soluble from water-soluble and solid materials, removes most of the water, and kills bacterial contaminants, but may alter or destroy some of the natural enzymes and proteins found in the raw ingredients. Meat and poultry by-products, while not rendered, vary widely in composition and quality." Article copyright API report.

Here are a few better natural pet food web sites below that I have used and find great., These companies try hard to keep the Natural and good in our pet food. Fortunately they care about there food and what they offer. And its worth every penny not to see your fur baby sick. I hope they will spark your interest. AND REMEMBER in my opinion if you can add fresh foods please do, these are still processed and the word balanced is a BIG word. Look around and explore throughly the information is very GOOD.
I would like to hear and share your comments and what you think, If you are feeding one of these pet foods or are feeding fresh foods.
With these natural foods they make a good way to feed your animal dry or soft food without the time consuming act of preparing fresh foods all the time.
