Time Travel - the definitive disproof by Peter (Pierre) Liu BA (Econ./Mathematical Logic) Introduction: Time travel is a fascinating subject. Brought up on a diet of sci-fi in my childhood years, I have always been fascinated by it. To-day the media of the sci-fi world, whether it be in the form of books, TV or cinema, are full of stories based on the possibility of time travel. Definitions: t(n) Time at present (Now) t(f) Time in Future t(p) Time Past S(tn) Space at present S(tf) Space in Future S(tp) Space Past Time travel: means either to move forwards or backwards in time from t(n) to t(f) or t(p) by whatever means and where the time interval or discontinuity between t(n) and t(f) or t(p) is quantifiably significant e.g. hours, days, months, years, centuries, millennia or aeons. Time machine: any hypothetical vehicle which can transport matter from t(n) to t(p) or t(f) Technical impossibility: something which cannot be done now, but may not be the case in future. e.g. it was a technical impossibility for man to land on the moon in the 19th century. Logical impossibility: something which can never be done because it contravenes logic. This disproof will demonstrate that time travel is a logical impossibility. Assumptions The Disproof: The Disproof is in 2 parts. Part A will prove that matter cannot travel backwards in time i.e. from t(n) to t(p). Part B will prove that matter cannot travel forwards in time i.e. from t(n) to t(f). The Disproof (Part A)
It was on one hazy day some time in the 80's when I suddenly asked myself this question: 'If time travel is possible, why is that no one has ever come back from the future ? If it is ever possible to build a 'time machine', then people from the future must have come back in time, not just within this century, but throughout the aeons before.' But there is no evidence that anyone has ever made it back from the future, ever! This realisation led me to believe that time travel will never be possible after all, and eventually to my definitive disproof that time travel is eternally impossible.
NB. Some technical impossibilities may be forever impossible e.g. accelerating a mass to exceed the speed of light
