Ever since I started at St. Therese, there has been a small wooden stool that I've kept in front of my desk, which I sometimes sit on when teaching, but which students have also used over the years when talking with me at my desk.

At some point,
Janet Chow, of the Class of 2003, developed an inexplicable affinity for the stool.  She was one of many who would use it from time to time, but in her case, it took on an almost magnetic quality.  For at least two years, she became possessive of it to a slightly alarming degree.  It was no longer just the stool by my desk; it was her stool.  Sitting on it, if you weren't Janet, made you a bit of a scoundrel in her eyes.

And heaven forbid I should use it for something else, like setting it on the window ledge as a base for my small telescope, during 6th grade Reading.  As soon as Janet would enter the room after school, she'd notice it gone from its correct place, and the pouting would start.  After which she'd inspect my
mug and tell me how dusty it was.

I seriously thought of giving her the stool when she graduated, although I realized I really couldn't.  Not that I didn't want to.  So I figured it would be immortalized here. Other students will sit on it over the years, but it will forever be known as Janet's Stool.
