DFS
Distributed File System
What
is Dfs?
•
A single logical
file structure organizing shared folders on different computers into one logical
unit
•
Users do not need
to know where the individual folders are located
•
Administrators can
move the folders to different locations without having to inform the users
•
Permissions are
set at the folder/share level
Stand-Alone
v Domain
•
Stand-Alone Dfs
offers no replication or backup, therefore it is a single point of failure
•
Stand-Alone Dfs
roots can be located on all supported file systems
•
Domain Dfs can be
fault tolerant by replicating the Dfs root to other domain controllers
•
Domain Dfs roots
can only be located on NTFS v5 partitions
