| History of Medical Technology The history of UPHS is composed of four phases: The Pre-Foundation period (1944-1953), the Foundation Period (1965-1974), the Satelliting Period (1973-1985), EDSA Period (1986-present). In 1985, the Perpetual Help Hospital, in Sampaloc, Manila opened doors to provide health care to a larger segment of the community. The founders envisioned the hospital concept to provide, not only health care needs, but also adequate of those who administer such health care. Thus 1996, the Perpetual Help School of Nursing was established at the same time at the same site in Manila. In the school year, 1978-1979, the College of Medicine accepted its first batch of students which ushered medical education in Laguna. The Health Sciences saw its inception with the offering of the Physical Therapy (PT) course in 1980-1981. With help from the Fund for Human Assistance of the World Rehabilitation Fund, realizing the country's critical need for occupational therapists, the school decided to offer the Occupational Therapy Course in 1985-1986, making Perpetual Help Foundation for Medicing and Health Sciences, the first private school in the country top offer this course. The College of Medical Technology was founded in 1986. True to its pioneering spirit, the school developed the prototype curriculum and offered Respiratory Course in 1988. Soon other health sciences were offered such as Radiologic Technology, Pharmacy and Preparatory in Dental Medicine. The Perpetual Help System aims to continually influence each member of its education community towards becoming a total person with great devotion to serve by providing the Perpetualite education and by promoting the Perpetualite value with a keen sense of Filipino culture as exemplified by its founders, Dr. Jose G. Tamayo and Dr. Josefina L. Tamayo. |
