Rules

On the first day of school, the students and I discuss the rules for our classroom.  This is a very important process for the children in developing an understanding as to why rules are needed and what they mean.  The children are asked to take responsibility for their actions.  I feel very strongly that our classroom rules help promote this responsibility.  These rules are as follows:

1.  Make a good decision
2.  Show respect
3.  Try to solve your problem

My goal is to provide a positive classroom environment that enhances your child's self-esteem.  Therefore, I rely on positive reinforcement.  Your child can recieve Valle Vista School raffle tickets for outstanding individual behavior.  Also, there are whole class points (the marble jar) for working cooperatively as a group.  Appropriate behavior is rewarded regularly.

Discipline Policy

It is important that students follow the clasroom rules consistently.  In our class, we have a color coded behavior tracking system.  When the rules are broken, your child will move his or her clothespin from green to yellow and then to red.  Each student will bring home a color card at the end of each day as a form of communication to you.  Please look for these cards and ask about your child's day.

The legend is as follows:

GREEN CARD
= Great!
This means there were no problems.

YELLOW CARD = OK Day
Your child recieved a warning for breaking a rule.

RED CARD = Try Harder!
Your child broke multiple rules.
Consequence is 5 minutes on the bench at recess.

WHITE CARD = Uh Oh!
Your child was sent to the office.
