A big "Whoa Nelly" to all of you fellow Ed Heads! Since there
is so little info out there in CyberSpace about the Eddies, I'm going to
assemble everything I can find right here for you in one nice, neat little
package.
The Swirling Eddies were formed in 1988 by the members of Daniel Amos.
The members of DA changed their names and the name of the band, then held
a contest for listeners to guess their identities. (This was on the
Eddies' debut album, Let's Spin.) They formed the group because,
according to Terry Taylor, "we didn't want to throw out another DA album
and watch it die." After a couple of SE albums, DA also began putting
out music again.
The second Eddies album was Outdoor Elvis. I consider this
to be their best album, but I haven't had a chance to hear a couple of
the other ones. This album featured the only DA et al song
to ever hit the charts. "Driving in England" went to number one!
Another song, "Urban Legends," has caught the attention of the great Urban
Legend Archives page.
I have also noticed a definite dirth of Eddies lyrics on the Web, so I
have taken upon myself the monumental task of providing them here.
Okay, okay, I had some help from a friend! I also have provided links
to all of the known SE pages. If you know of any others, please let
me know.
Now for bragging rights. In addition to the albums below, I also
have one unusual item in my SE collection: an album called "Swirling Mellow."
It's an elevator muzak version of Let's Spin. I got it through
the fan club. (Yes, I, too, at one time, was a card-carrying Swirling
Eddies Fan Club member. Unfortunately, I've lost my card.)
Someone told me that some of the songs on it were used on Miracle Faith
Telethon, but I have never heard this album.
Okay, enough
bragging! On to the lyrics & links....
