Month Four: Your Worries

You will not start to feel the baby move when the books say you are supposed to feel it move. So you will tell your husband the baby is dead. You will imagine a dead baby. Then you will imagine a not-dead-but-paralyzed baby that you will have to take care of for the rest of your life, and you will question your motherly instincts. All doctors will tell you not to worry. Then you will feel the baby. Then it will move all the time and you will have fantasies about having a paralyzed baby. Just paralyzed for a little, maybe, while you sleep.
