13%? - not for us!
Leaving Forges-les-Eaux, the route acquired a distinct change of attitude.  Suddenly there were hills in the distance. Big ones as well. Some even had water towers on them (and when they have water towers on them, you know they are going to be bad!)

What was that over there? The road made a suicidal climb heavenwards. No! Surely not!  Luckily, 'surely not' it was, as, thankfully, we veered left and away from what was described as a 13% incline (unlucky for some, eh, but not for us, this time!)

But there was a certain ongoing discomfort about the route now. Whichever way we looked there were hills, and it was obvious that at some point we were going to have to ascend at least one of them.

But for now we could continue to enjoy the scenery. It was all too much for me. So much so that I forgot to take a photo of any of it. I'll put it down to age and brain addling  (usually works - that's the brain AND the excuse!)

Still, you do have a nice map to look at on the left - it's a Michelin map, you know, You can get them free on the Internet these days as well, so you can copy and paste them to build a big map of a whole area. A bit like I've done on this website. Amazing what you can learn on a website like this, isn't it.

Anyway, I needed that little diversion, in view of what was coming...
