Stage 7 - Neufchatel-en-Bray to Londinieres
Nice house..... wrong road...!
Fete de jour!
Panoramic view = Big hill!!
I know it says it's on the wrong road, but it's important this house, as I hope to demonstrate.

First of all take a look at the map. Now, I'm not up on all these different signs they put on maps, but those four little blue lines that are next to the label I made, I am familiar with. They are put there when you get a panoramic view - and panoramic views are those things you get when you are able to see for miles in any direction - and you can only see for miles in any direction when you are up high.

So there we have it. By now Tony and Lee had decided to take things at a leisurely pace whereas Jane, Dave and myself were gung-ho for pressing onwards apace. Mind you seeing a line of cars of ant-like size weaving their way ever upwards ahead of us to that panoramic viewing point did tend to dampen the enthusaism a bit. I have no idea how long or far we climbed - a good couple of miles at any rate. Nothing heavy in terms of steepness, just a long arduous and telling grind upwards on what was a relatively busy road for car traffic. Just what you need! Still we made it and then it was across the plateau into Londiniere.

This is where I admire the French. Have you ever tried to close a road to have a fete in the UK? I tried it once during the Golden Jubilee. Never again. You would have thought I was trying to close the Esher By-pass rather than a side street in East Molesey. The French don't have this problem. A few liberally scattered signs with 'Route Barree' emblazoned on them and away they go. And so it was that we found ourselves tripping over rifle arcades, slot machines, and even a set of dodgems as we negotiated our way through the village to find the D920. That's where my usual splendid map-reading skills caused us to take the D920 road that was heading away from Dieppe rather than towards it! Luckily a Londiniere family were outside their house discussing building work or something like that, and  a quick 'are we going the right way?' en francais soon showed us the error of my ways! But not before I had taken a photo of that magnificent specimen of local architecture. You see, I can forget to take photos of panoramic views and stunning countryside, but a rather plain looking house gets me every time. There's a moral there, somewhere, I am sure....

Time to press onwards...(now that we were on the right road!)
