Other distinguishing characteristics: scar across her face, right eye missing (covered by patch) carries a sword and two knives, her hair is usually in a waist length braid. She is the captain of the Surfeit, an elegant winged airship of whitewashed wood and black sails and a figurehead in the form of a demon. The winged airship is less popular than the unwinged variety. It is more difficult to build and more difficult to maintain, requiring a better-trained crew, and more careful repairs than the regular variety. It does, however, fly better. She lies, steals, kills, seduces and betrays with reckless abandon. She is a hedonist: amoral, impatient, and inexplicable.
Origins: Jude Blackstone is the daughter of the infamous pirate - Captain Russell Blackstone - and a mother she never knew. She was raised by her father, on his ship (the first successfully designed winged airship) and knows more about flying than anyone else she has ever encountered.

Other Distinguishing Characteristics: Kyralyn has short, sandy fur covering her entire body, large catlike ears with black tufts, and resembles a caracal (African wild cat) in facial coloration and features. She has a bushy tail, short padded feet, short fingers, cat fangs and claws. Her eyes have powerful nocturnal vision, and her senses of smell and hearing are just as refined. Her dense muscle mass allows her to run and leap, as well as fight viciously-- especially when cornered. Her most powerful weapon is her scream, which reaches ultrasonic levels and can shatter glass. Having been captive most of her life, she has a stagnant hatred of "normals" of any kind.
Origins: Kyralyn was born to freaks, and captured by normals when she was 6 to be sold as a pet. When this idea fell through, she was sold into slavery, and later to the infamous freak show. She had attempted to escape several times prior, now bearing scars under her fur to testify her "retrieval." When she caught wind of her future home at Mikaili's circus, Kyralyn broke free and escaped over the dunes, and because of her coloring, disappeared into the sands.

Other distinguishing characteristics: She is armed with two long knives and a cane. Lo is a traditional sort of "tough girl", taking shit from absolutely no one. She's fearless, heavyset with a round, freckled and deceptively friendly face. She looks, all in all, like the honest, intelligent girl next door. Quite deceiving.
Origins: Lo was born on the outside, she didn't see the inside of any city's walls until she was nearly ten. Her family was large, fatherless and full of half siblings and orphaned cousins. She was quickly discovered by "Chicken" a man who ran a house of ill repute, not one of the residents being over the age of 14. At 16, Lo became the second wife (he was still very much married to his first wife) of Raymond Vaughn, a pharmaceuticals billionaire. Marishka, Raymond's first wife, made it her business to make Lo's life miserable. Their husband did everything he could to keep the peace but when a nineteen-year-old Lo gave birth to Raymond's first son, Marishka told them the child had been stillborn and quickly got rid of the infant. By 21, Lo was a widow; Marishka and her 3 daughters inherited Raymond's estate and made sure Lo was no longer welcome in the city her husband had lived in. Lo fled to the outlands.

Other Distinguishing Characteristics: Mikaili has a large, stylized, black vampire bat tattoo on her left shoulderblade, tribal designs starting at mid- lower back that spiral down the back of her right leg to her knee and across her shin to end at her instep. She has three piercings in each earlobe, one cartilage piercing in her left ear, and a large burn scar on her left hip that spans a handslength down the side of her leg. She wears reading glasses when alone; in public, she wouldn't be caught dead with them, even if it means squinting when nobody else is looking. Her hair goes from skull-flat to spiked to curled to any other numerous combinations at her whim. Mikaili's wardrobe consists of now antique clothing from her family's collection, which ranges from vinyl pants and leather to Victorian-style dresses to tee-shirts and jeans. Her tastes change with her mood. Mikaili is intelligent, ruthless to the point of cruel, and self-righteous. She believes what she does is her destined responsibility, and she will allow nothing to stand in her way.
Origins: Mikaili was born in one of the walled cities and given every opportunity to excel. With her parents' support and money, she went through the present world's equivalent of school and graduated with honors. Having always found the non-normals disgusting and crude, she created an anti-freak organization which now boasts over 12,000 members, all sworn to the purification of the human species. Their headquarters is situated secretly behind the guise of a circus and freak show west of the cities.
