KEY RESULT AREAS

The Commission on Missions will address eight areas of concern for the different mission stations: Evangelization, Formation, Youth Empowerment, Continuing Research, Literacy, Livelihood, Health and Safety, and Funding and Support. These areas are the priorities of the commission in order to equip the residents of the mission stations with necessary tools for them to be self-sufficient. The following are the proposed projects for each priority area:

EVANGELIZATION

• Establish Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs)
  We commission the Commission on Missions to conduct two consultations, firstly with the Dominican parish priests; and secondly with campus ministers/chaplains of Dominican schools towards holding of seminars for the establishment and development of basic ecclesial communities with solid ecclesiological foundation.

• Conduct Bible study, catechism and recollection in the different mission stations.
• Publish a newsletter that will feature reflections on biblical readings and disseminate information about the activities of the Commission on Missions and the status of the different mission stations.

FORMATION

• Inculcate among the solemnly professed brothers the spirit of commitment to the missions of the Province.
• Create awareness among the solemnly professed brothers of the Dominican Order on the importance of the missions.
  We recommend that the Director of the Pastoral Formation Program identify and prepare solemnly professed brothers for local and overseas missions.

• Create programs and conduct vocation campaigns geared towards mission awareness among pre-aspirants.
• To develop active involvement among the Dominican brothers in the implementation of projects in the different mission stations.
  We recommend that the Commission on Missions in collaboration with the Provincial Council of Formation formulate an exposure program for the student brothers to both local and overseas mission areas of the Province.

• Conduct exposure programs for the student brothers to local and overseas mission areas of the province.

YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

• Establish network in different schools, universities and parishes that will facilitate in the promotion of the activities of the Commission on Missions.
  V Organize seminar-workshops geared towards the formation of service-oriented individuals.
• Promote the role of the youth in community development by providing an avenue for them to share their ideas and sentiments on how to improve the condition of the different mission stations.
• Organize and conduct Bible study programs, catechism, recollection, youth camps and assemblies to strengthen interpersonal and working relationships among the members of the youth group.

CONTINUING RESEARCH

• Study the potentials of the Dominican schools to serve as entry points for our mission apostolate.
  We commission the Commission on Missions, in coordination with the DOMNET and the University of Santo Tomas, to study the potentials of our Dominican schools in foreign countries, as well as foreign schools linked with our local schools, as entry points for our missionary apostolate.

• Establish network with different schools and universities to encourage conduct of researches in the different mission stations.
• Utilize findings of the researches conducted to implement changes that will improve the condition of the different mission stations.

LITERACY

• Initiate a scholarship program for high school students of the different mission schools and conceptualize a standard selection procedure of the applicants who will enjoy the benefits of full scholarship.
• Tap volunteer teachers from various educational institutions who will be willing to conduct hands-on training of teachers in the mission schools.
• Conduct trainings and seminar-workshops focused on skill enhancement with respect to handling students and effective transfer of learning.
• Establish regular conduct of literacy programs that will cater to the educational needs of the members of the mission station.
• Improve the quality of education with increase in knowledge and development of skills of the teachers in the mission schools.
• Continuously upgrade teaching materials, manuals and programs of the mission schools.
• Conceptualize literacy programs for the Out-of-School-Youth (OSY) in the mission stations as well as programs catering to adult education.

LIVELIHOOD

• Coordinate with research committee regarding conduct of study of the various resources present in the mission stations.
• Establish livelihood projects that will continuously support the basic needs of the residents of the adopted communities.
• Conduct seminars on prospective sources of livelihood in the different mission stations.
• Promote the mission stations as venues for ecotourism.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

• Maintain a healthy and safe environment in the different mission stations.
• Establish network with different medical schools and universities to encourage students to do their immersion on the different mission stations.
• Tap volunteer doctors who are willing to conduct training of medical students and student nurses in the mission stations.
• Conduct regular medical missions to be sponsored by various medical schools and universities.
• Tap volunteer medical interns and practitioners who are willing to render assistance in the different mission stations and serve as "doctor to the barrios".

FUNDING AND SUPPORT

• Solicit funding and support among the various sectors of society by organizing awareness campaigns that will promote the foundation, thereby increasing its financial and manpower resources.

  1. Organize roving exhibits to visit various schools and parishes.

  2. Publish leaflets, souvenir programs, flyers, newsletter to disseminate upcoming activities and projects of the mission apostolate.
  

  3. Conceptualize a video presentation that will emphasize the needs of the different mission stations to be viewed by the students/public in exhibit areas.

  4. Set-up booths that will feature the adopt-a-student / teacher / classroom projects of the mission apostolate in the exhibit areas.

• Formulate and effectively implement programs which will contribute to the increase of the financial resources of the foundation.
  In order to increase the capital fund of the Dominican Missions Foundation, Inc., we recommend that :
  a. the Commission on Mission, in coordination with the Provincial Syndic, organize fund raising activities and tap funding agencies for this purpose;

• Encourage active involvement of various schools and parishes by way of manpower and financial support to the foundation.
  In order to increase the capital fund of the Dominican Missions Foundation, Inc., we recommend that :
  b. educational institutions, shrines and parishes under the care of the Province donate to its fund.

• Facilitate funding of the approved projects and programs of the different mission stations;
  We recommend that requests for funding of infrastructure projects and pastoral programs from our mission stations be submitted to the Commission on Missions for evaluation and recommendation to the Provincial and his Council for approval. The Commission on Missions shall facilitate the funding of the approved projects and programs.

• Organize a lay partner association to foster the missionary vocation of the laity and support our mission priorities;
  In view of fostering the missionary vocation of the laity and of their collaboration in our mission priority, we commission the Commission on Missions to organize a lay partner association, e.g. "Friends of the Philippine Dominican Missions".

• Celebrate the Philippine Dominican Mission Month to promote awareness of the Dominican Missionary Activities.
  In order to promote awareness of the Dominican missionary activities in our parishes and educational institutions, we recommend the continuance of the celebration of the Philippine Dominican Mission Month in August.

1. Issue notice to all educational institutions, convents, shrines and parishes three (3) months before the celebration of the Philippine Dominican Mission Month.

2. Mobilization of Lay Organizations such as CWL, Knights of Columbus, PREX and others.

• Organize fund-raising activities to augment the funding of the different projects conducted in all areas of the mission apostolate.

  
  1. Request religious stores in the parishes, retreat houses and canteens operated by educational institutions to share a minimal portion of their monthly income to the missions.

  2. Utilize the religious stores in the parishes, retreat houses and canteens as an outlet on the sale, under consignment basis, of religious items to be sourced directly from manufacturers at a minimum cost.

  3. Undertake printing of religious calendars of the mission to be sold through the religious stores of parishes, retreat houses and canteens.

  4. Tap funding agencies, foundations, both local and foreign, to solicit donations, in cash or in kind.

  5. Solicit donations from corporate and individual benefactors.

  6. Tap government agencies / offices for donations.

  7. Sponsor movie premieres / shows / concerts for the benefit of the Philippine Dominican Missions Foundation, Inc.

  8. Tap events promoters to donate part of the proceeds of premieres / concerts / shows to the Philippine Dominican Missions Foundation, Inc.

  9. Implement Adopt-a-Student Program to raise funds that will sustain the educational needs of the youth in the different mission stations.

  10. Solicit from Educational Institutions to adopt-a-student / classroom / hall / library / clinic project.

  11. Encourage involvement of the Philippine Dominican Province Parish Priest Council (PDPPPC) to the missions.
