| The Sportsman II "64cc" cylinder heads were brand new but a lot of machine work was needed prior to installation. The decks were cut considerably to reduce the 65 cc chambers (actual measured volume) to 60 cc. The spring seats had to be enlarged slightly for the roller cam springs and the hardened spring seat cups. The guides were machined for Teflon seals. In both pictures I used a spring shim to protect the bottom of the seat and act as a depth stop. I did not want to break into the water jacket. |

| Here's the brand new Manley valves getting a perfect grind on my Souix 2001 valve grinder. The valves were back cut and the seat widths were optimized. The purple machinist dye lets me see whats grinding and identify any chatter or misalignment so it can be corrected. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| After all the grinding and machining is done, the heads get a very thorough cleaning in the parts washer. The parts washer has several magnets from old speakers in the bottom to catch stray chips and the inlet of the pump has a filter sock. The Mineral Spirits gets changed and the tank cleaned out before every engine assembly job. |

| Here's all the cylinder head parts layed out on my assembly bench. every part has been cleaned and set on clean newspaper. Every valve, spring and seat are labled. They have been fitted as matched components and can't be interchanged. This is the left hand head because it has 1,3,5,7 cylinder numbers. The dye and number markings are left on as they have no detremental effect. |
