Durango Deuce Engine Parts XIII
A lot has transpired since the last update. Gerie decided not to race the Nova and bought the previous winning Corvette to race at the 2001 LaCarrera. He placed third in the class. The engine project was put on hold.

Last year Gerie decided to race the Durango Deuce at the 2002 La Carrera. The "Wright Stuff" project was revived and back on the front burner.

Here's the $1,200 block and several thousands of dollars worth of performance parts.

Not here is the custom built Avaid front sump oil pan and special 2bbl carb. Custom solid roller camshaft and valvetrain is on hold for now. Cost for that was more than a grand.
This hot rod stuff sure adds up fast!

I cleaned and painted the block to keep the outside from rusting. Block is kept covered with a plastic bag when not being worked on.
My shop is air conditioned to keep the rust promoting  humidity down.
Bores are coated with LPS2 and ATF to keep them from corroding. Block will also be cleaned several times before final assembly.

750 Kawasaki H2 Triple (1972) in the background is my own drag bike. I built and welded the modified frame, wheelies bars and expansion chambers and painted the body. The custom seat I had done.
Here's a bird's eye view of the galley. The blue things are crankcase vents. Oil drain back holes are tapped 1/4 NPT.These blue anodized aluminum extensions allow air to be pulled from the crankcase. You don't want the oil pan to get pressurized.
Oil still drains from the front and rear holes. Solid roller lifters still get enough lubrication through oil galley. The rest of the story can't be seen here.
Putting the block together requires quite a few misc. odds and ends. I bought this kit from GM that includes all the little plugs and dowel pins that are needed, in one neat and tidy package.

Part number is 12495500. Cost is less than $20
Remembering to replace all the little plugs now will save a lot of headaches later.

This warning is from GM Engineering. If you forget this plug,
at the very least, the oil will bypass the filter.
I don't think you want that.

Galley plugs at the ends of the block shouldn't be installed too deep or they can restrict oil flow. Generic hardware store "Chinese" made pipe plugs can have sub-standard taper and fit.
More on the oil system later.

The oil gallies were tapped and plugged. One has  a small, precisely drilled hole for timing chain oiling
