| Here's the Sunnen Hone at Kinetics. It's only as good as the operator. You can get blocks bored and honed anywhere, but it's worth the wait to get someone who can do it right. I waited about 3 weeks before he got around to my block. Trick is to plan ahead and be patient. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Stopped by and Dennis is honing. Yay! BHJ block plate simulates cylinder head stress. Yes, it makes a difference in the shape of the cylinder and yes, you'll pay extra for this. We want to maximize ring seal to increase torque and vacuum at altitude. It will also help at sea level. |

| The block is bored and honed! Clearance is set at .0045" for the JE pistons. I need to get the new main studs before he can align hone the main journals. I hope the UPS truck left a package today because tomorrow it's the 3 day Memorial day holiday weekend. Dennis is taking a well deserved rest. He'll be back on it on Tuesday. Once the align honing is done he can check and deck the block. Balancing the rotating assembly will come next. . |

| I ordered the Total Seal gapless rings today. They have a new gapless Top Ring set that will aid in maintaining compression and vacuum at high altitude. Regular Total Seal gapless rings are only in the 2nd ring slot. New advances in metalurgy allow a gapless top ring close to combustion forces . So why don't they use gapless in both slots, you ask? Gapless rings still require gas pressure to work. A gapless ring below another gapless wouldn't see any pressure so 2nd ring is still a conventional "file fit" gap ring. They claim significant improvements, like 56 hp(!) on a 540" Chevy. I'm skeptical and I'm sure it will be much less on our little 327.... but we'll see. The rings are pricey (set lists at $250!) Part number is M-3690-35 |
