***Movie Review, By Marsall Rogers(3/12/05)

Last evening I managed to sit threw the movie "The Hostage," without going absolutely crazy in my seat. I don't know how I did it, but I doubt many people can. If you like really cheesy plot line, and scenes that are supposed to be scary, but just aren't. For those of you in Drama, you'll understand what I mean when I say mediocre acting. Bruce Willis just wasn't meant to be a hostage negotiator. The plot is also very strange too(if you have noticed, plot lines keep getting stranger and lamer, as all the goods ones get "taken"), Bruce Willis plays a hostage negotiator who lives in L.A. One day he is negotiating, and all the hostages are killed. Then he moves to a small town outside of L.A., where he is looking for some rest from his old depressing job. There is not a lot going on there, but one day, some teenagers of the poorer class follow a rich man in a Cadillac Escalade to his house(with his daughter and son). Then they try to jack his car, but one of the characters kills a police officer, and the other one knocks the father out. Then they take over the house and the police come. Then Willis' character comes and sees the hostage and basically gets stressed out because it reminds him of the old days in L.A. The teens aren't the only ones that have business with the father. We then learn that he is a accountant for making things such as offshore accounts, and Swiss Bank accounts for Big Corps, and drug people. He burned a DVD with sensitive information before the teens came, and now these other people that had this accounting business with him, want their DVD. So Willis' character is kidnapped, and shown his family as a threat if he doesn't get the DVD for them. The drug people/Big Corp. people come to the house where the family is being held hostage, and pretend to be FBI, so they can take over the situation. Then one of the teenagers goes nuts, kills his two partners, chases the family into a safe room, then burns the house down, hoping they will die. They don't of course, because what kind of movie would that be?, no Willis' character comes in and rescues them. Then as Willis' character leaves the inferno, he gets shot by one of the fake FBI men, who want the DVD, he gives it to them, but then the crazy teenager comes out of the flames behind the fake FBI man, and throws a molotov cocktail at the fake FBI agent from behind, who then shoots him, and they both die, meanwhile Willis' character is saving the family from the inferno. In the end, Willis' character gets the family back only after he kills a few more people who are gaurding his family. In the end, we go back to a weird cartoon impressionist animation, showing the mansion, then it fades to black and credits start to roll. I would say desides this bad plot, and mediocre acting, my least favorite part was the music. It belongs in Spider Man, not this movie. Overall, I give it a C-.***

***Movie Review, By The Glass Onion(1/24/05)

I recently watched a movie entitled Noises Off. It is about a play
being shown in which the cast and director deteriorate until it is
basically one huge fight between the personnel. It immediately becomes
a huge hit of course. And as things go in movies everything turns out
perfectly. I would really like to see more movies with terrible non
cliche endings it would be more interesting less predictable and
funnier. But anyway watching this movie made me realize that it is
fairly amazing that plays concerts and movies ever get completed
without major fiascos. I have performed and sadly the movie was fairly
accurate although exaggerated. Once cast members start sleeping with
each other it would seem like all is lost. When performing it seems
like someone is always busy and not ready or late or missing something
or dead or having breakdowns or doing drugs or drinking cheap 100 proof
liquor straight out of a bottle or sleeping. It's amazing people
actually get things together. The things I mentioned above are only
half the issues add a little sex and jealousy and you have a real
recipe for disaster. It's the same for concerts too. Someone always
loses their music or their instrument or needs to tune. And sometimes
the guitar player will get shot because their like a dime a dozen or
the drummer and bass player will be dueling and the lead singer will be
sacrificing virgins to volcano gods and things can get ugly especially
when cops come and the manager has to explain that it's part of a
religion and the virgins had volunteered and they were all over 18 and
it is different from Kevorkian. If they finally get onstage they can
fight amongst themselves and with the fans and forget the songs while
the record company executives decide wether to commit suicide or sell
their stock and flee to the Bahamas. Its like Spinal Tap was real and
its not a gone thing but it makes a hell of a good documentary. In case
you ever go into a business like this were one must perform remember my
advice: If you sleep with a fellow performer make sure their good
looking or else its a waste, always protect your identity and improv is
good.Overall it deserves a B ****

***More on Lockers, By Elizabeth Schilling, and Marshall Rogers(1/ 19/05)

PCS Students,
I inquired with John Hamstra, board member on the status of the
lockers.
He said part of the delay was due to limited moneya nd the need to use
volunteers on the design.
Here is part of his response date Jan. 7, 2005:
"Here's the status of the locker installation. Foundations have been
poured, and with the physical spaces that each bank of lockers will
occupy now fully defined, the contractor has placed the order for the
lockers just this week. The lead time with the manufacturer is four to
six weeks. The realistic target for completion is now the beginning of
March." This was an email between Elizabeth Schilling and John Hamstra, a member of the pcs School Board. It was posted by Marshall Rogers.

***Movie Reviews, By Lilly Thomas(1/18/05)

Hi PCS this is Lilly Thomas with your newest section on pcshelper.com!!! I am here to talk about all the great movies that are out in theaters.
I would like to start with one of the best movies that I have seen so far of
2005, the name of this movie is Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera.
This movie stars Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum, Patrick Wilson, and Minnie Driver.
The movie is set during the 19th century in an Opera house in Paris. It and
begins when Christine (Rossum) takes center stage after well know diva, Carlotta
(Driver) quits. After the Phantom (Butler) hears her voice he become incredibly
upsets with her. He tries many ways to hypnotize her into loving her with his
music and songs that he performs for her in his under-the- opera house home. But
when the Phantom becomes irate that his plan dose not work is it up to
Christine's brave fiancé, Raoul( Wilson)to save the day, or will the Phantom find it in
his hear to give these two love birds a chance to spread their wings. I can't
tell you!! So I suggest you down to you local movie theater and spend 6.75 on this
fantastic move. It features some of Webber's hits like: “Music of the
Night" and "Point of no Return". Nominated for three Golden Globes; Best Actress:
Emmy Rossum, Best Song: “Learn to be Lonely" and Best Picture in Comedy or
Musical, sadly it did not win any:( But don't trust that go se the movie
yourself, and hey... maybe you could invite me!!!

--SURF REPORT AND FORECAST
Today we got up nice and early and were in the water by seven o 'clock, a nice little morning session before our wednesday block day. The tide was a little bit high, but some nice little wedgy peaks were rolling into Natural Bridges. Though inconsitent, the surf was about chest--shoulder high on the sets.  It was the first day of clean, non wind-blown surf, where it was actually rideable for the first time after the original swell was destroyed by winds accompanying this last storm.

3-day forcast
flat, flatter and flatest
though we are expected to see a slight remnent of NW swell, it will be minimal. If you are depserate and have been out of the water due to poor surf conditions after the storm, your best bet would be to head north up the coast.

Future forcast
Both SW and NW swells will be minimal fro the next week or so, though the winds willbe light on some days they are calling for ankle high sets. Our advice is to save up some nergy, and take a break from the gross polluted water, and keep your eye on the surf reprts because it is supposed to PUMP on monday and tuesday. They are calling for a short window of 10-15 feet, possible some double over-head, with a period of 16-18 seconds. So wax up your semi-gun and get stoked, it is going to be good. Our call for those few days of swell, is going to be middle peak at the lane, light winds (8 knots) and not to gnar-gnar however you can expect heavy crowds by mid afternoon. Otherwise this last storm dumped a lot of sand on Capitola and Cowells, it should be a bit more mellow, but still classic conditions.

---BROSIMS AND SLANG
This is for all you gnar- gnar folks that like to talk like real surfers even if your not the king or queen of the peak. We will give u a few to study up on and practice with every week.

Bromeo - your bro that's romantic
Mononuclebrosis - a bro who has mono
Gnarbecue - a barbecue for gnarly bros
double-bro-seven---your bro who is super secretive
brobot - your bro who shows now emotion

PICTURE OF THE MONTH
usually we will have surfing and pics of santa cruz, but this one was extra special

***PCS Lockers, By Marshall Rogers(1/11/05)

PCS lockers are still not here, after months of waiting. When will the faculty understand that the children of PCS carry many heavy books, and cannot handle the load. When I talked to a adult friend of mine he said that he never remembered even carrying a backpack when he was a kid, he just remembers a simple binder with paper and a pencil. This was enough then, but now that we have heavy text books, and lots of notes and essays to carry around, a average child's backpack probably weights no less that 5lbs.

Most people at PCS love the idea of lockers, because they bring a sense of normality that pcs doesn't have right now. We're more of the "nerd" school. To many these lockers are the key to being "normal." Although the lockers are not here yet, the cement has been poured and the foundations have been set..

***Random Article, By The Glass Onion(1/11/05)

If you ever light yourself on fire you should videotape. I bet it looks really funny. Also you might not live long enough to do it in front of a mirror. Or you might not have a big enough mirror but you live a long time. These are the common complaints of the pyromasochists. You'd think lighting yourself on fire would hurt. In movies or books (like this one "The Person was being burned at the stake was screaming") People scream in pain when they are burned. Anyway that leads to the topic of today and tommorow and maybe next thursday: music. It is a lot like lighting ones self on fire. It's funny and hard to do in front of a big enough mirror while screaming in pain and living a long time. Music and myself are the greatest things in life. I'm first but if I could have two first choices music would be my second. However my achievements are to great to be written down on paper they must be immortalized in song. Which brings us back to music. There are two basic kinds of music good and bad. There is also weird but that usually falls under the category of good or sometimes bad. Old music is often better. Here is a list to guide you like a flaming bowling pin on top of a stereo system. Good: Soul Coughing, The Magnetic Fields, The Flecktones, and Bauhaus. But that is just a small portion of what awaits one who allows there mind to drift over the stylings of music. Be free like those traveling nomad dudes who kill and rape. Feel free to rape the vynil or Cd's but I don't reccomend it and for the record it will classify you as a terrible perverted person. Just let your self drift away until you are slammed into the wall by sound waves and your eyes melt and flame shoots out of your fingers and you turn inside out. Then you can turn the volume down.
