PCGA Joins 106th Anniversary Celebration of Philippine Independence

At the stroke of 8:00 am of June 12, 2004, Presidential Assistant for Mindanao, Hon. Jesus P. Dureza, with auxiliarist from the 801st and 814th Squadron of Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, raised the Philippine flag during the 106th year of Philippine Independence at Rizal Park, Davao City.

One hour and thirty minutes before 8 ‘o clock, PCGA officers assembled in front of the City Hall for the final briefing and instructions. Shortly after the arrival of Hon. Dureza, the siren signaled the commemoration of the country’s liberty from the western colony. Dressed in White uniform, auxiliarists marched to the City’s flag pole while carrying the country’s symbol of freedom. Immediately following the honor guards, Hon. Dureza, City Administrator Atty. Quitain and PCGA Group Squadron 1 Leader Commodore Antonio T. Uy positioned in front of the pole, and synchronized with the beat of the National Anthem, slowly pulled the string of the Philippine flag.

After Dabawenyos recited the "Panunumpa sa Watawat" , a floral offering to the monument of the national hero Jose P. Rizal and a short musicale at the freedom park followed.

Government and Non-government organization participated in the ceremony. Police Officers, in the command of Police Senior Superintendent Isidro Lapiña of PNP Regional Command and Police Chief Superintendent Condrado Laza of Davao City Police Office, arrived in full force showing their reverence to the Philippine Flag. Other participating organizations are Knights of Columbus, Davao Masonic Society, Philippine Veterans Society and all government offices. Allied Asian Countries represented by the Indonesian and Malaysian consulates graced the ceremonial Flag raising and Floral Offering as well.

Meanwhile, Commodore Uy commended the auxiliarist for the graceful and snappy execution.

Auxiliarists display acts of heroism

Spearheaded by Ens. Felino Morante, auxiliarists helped prevent further damage at Baranggay 31-D when a fire burned down three houses last June 17, 2004.

801st PCGA members living in the vicinity, Ens. David Saveron Jr., CPO Hover Divinagracia, and CPO Flordeliza Saveron, courageously coordinated with the firemen in controlling the fire from spreading to other areas.
