The
United States Coast Guard Auxiliary was established by Congress in
1939 to assist the Coast Guard in promoting boating safety. It boasts more
than 35,000 members from all walks of life who receive special training so
that they may be a functional part of Coast Guard Forces. Auxiliarists
assist the Coast Guard in non-law enforcement programs such as public
education, vessel safety checks, safety patrols, search and rescue,
maritime security and environmental protection and Coast Guard Academy
introduction programs for youth. Auxiliarists volunteer more than 2
million hours annually to benefit other boaters and their families.
The
United States Coast Guard one
of the country's five armed services, is also one of the most unique
agencies of the federal government. We trace our history back to 4 August
1790, when the first Congress authorized the construction of ten vessels
to enforce tariff and trade laws, prevent smuggling, and protect the
collection of the federal revenue. Known variously as the Revenue Marine
and the Revenue Cutter Service, we expanded in size and responsibilities
as the nation grew.
The
Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary.The
Volunteer CCGA-P's SAR area includes more than 29,500 square kilometres of
coastline, 6,500 islands, and approximately 450,000 square kilometres of
internal and offshore waters. It is a challenge to provide SAR response
capability to such a large area, and our volunteers meet the challenge
with determination and professionalism. We are a marine SAR resource which
is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If necessary, our volunteers
are willing and ready to risk their lives to help anyone in distress on
the water.
The
Australian Volunteer Coast Guard is an organisation composed entirely of

Australian Volunteer Coast Guard has no law enforcement powers and enjoys
a reputation for being helpful and courteous to all boat owners.
