INTERESTED IN CARD ACCESS BUT STILL NOT SURE WHY DO YOU WANT IT?

why do you need card access in the first place? Main purpose of card access system is to keep doors locked so let's start from keys and locks.

Keys and locks:

  • Keys are easily duplicated.
  • Keys can not control when (time and days) personnel are valid.
  • Keys do not provide you with any knowledge or information of when and where someone has gained access.
  • Changing locks is expensive. They should be replaced when: keys are lost, personnel turnover, mechanical problems.
  • Changing locks and keys takes time, leaves your facility and assets vunerable.
  • Locks can be compromised.
  • Difficult to manage key distribution and control.
  • No integration capabilities: integration to CCTV, Badging/Video data base, to alarm monitoring.
Keypad / combination mechanical locks:
  • Common number known by all or almost all employees
  • No identification or knowledge of when or where someone has gained access.
  • No control of when (time and day) personnel have access.
  • Difficult to immediately delete and inform personnel of code changes.
  • No integration capabilities.
Security officers / guards
  • Guard can only be at one place at one time.
  • Guard can be absent or late.
  • Always subject to human mistakes and compromises.
  • Posted to protect entrances not necessarily internal theft.
  • Records can be inaccurate or difficult to read (who, when, where), if records are kept at all.
  • A guard service is very expensive.
WHAT IS ELECTRONIC ACCESS CONTROL ?

Electronic access control is computerized control over entry to any area that can be secured with lock and key. Entry is only allowed to authorized people at authorized times. All activity is electronically recorded for accurate and quick reporting purposes.

An access control system electronically safeguards your facility without utilizing keys or guards. What will card access do for you?

  • Increases security.
  • Increases accountability.
  • Increases facility information.
  • Reduces operating cost.
  • Reduces liability.
  • Reduces risk.
  • Additional identification.
  • Access multiple buildings, locations, computers or other places using same card.
  • See and react to events happening in real time.
  • See and use activity log.
ALL THAT IN MORE DETAILS

RISK REDUCTION
Limiting access to the building or area reduces the risk of authorized persons entering it and removing or damaging property. An access system also offers employees round the clock peace of mind and physical protection from any unauthorized person gaining access to facility.

SENSE OF SECURITY
Visitors or public attempting to enter the premises see that they can not wander around. unescorted but instead must check in and be issued a visitor's badge. This type of system also affords the employees a high degree of internal security.

INCREASED ACCOUNTABILITY
Because of restricted access areas within the building, all personnel are where they are supposed to be. Consequently, everybody can be accounted for quickly and efficiently in the event of an emergency. In addition, an activity report from the system can quickly pinpoint the wereabouts of any group or individual at any given time.

ADDITIONAL IDENTIFICATION
An access control system also provides a complete database of all card or PIN holders that includes pertinent information such as a driver's license ID number, social security number, home phone number, person to contact in case of emergency, parking lot slot and other information that may be needed for identification purposes.

RECORDING OF EVENTS
The access control system has a real time clock that records who went where and when. All events can be recorded and maintained on the system's hard drive. Exit is controlled by an exit reader. Without it, the system can not record who exited.

RESTRICTIONS
The system is capable of allowing a single user or a group of users to enter a controlled area based on criteria such as the time of day, day of the week, and door or group of doors selected. Restrictions can be programmed into the system as needed.

TEMPORARY USERS
The access control system provides visitor control through temporary user cards or pin numbers. This type of control can be programmed into any of the controlled doors and can limit the number of times a visitor can use his or her card or pin number. Other temporary or non-employees, such as contracted cleaners, can be set up for limited access on Mondays from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, for example.

AUTOMATION
The system can be set on daily schedule to automatically lock and unlock doors. The front doors or lobby entrance could be set to be open Monday through Friday, for example, from 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM and set to be locked on holidays or any day of the week the premises are closed. The air conditioning system can also be programmed to operate during specifically set times only, as well.
There are many other devices you can use with card access.
If properly set your card access can be used to get you time and attendance reports. Find out how much time exactly your employees spend on premises or in certain areas.

RESPONSE TO UNAUTHORIZED ENTRY
The access control system can tell the central station to report an authorized entry. The time that this feature is activated is programmed within the system. This can be accomplished within the software section and the relay output section of the access controller. to reduce costs, the security manager on-site would have control of the system during normal operating hours.

ACCESS MULTIPLE LOCATIONS OR DEVICES USING SAME CARD
Card is your unique token to all your (if you accept card access solutions on corporate level) corporate buildings and/or  locations, clubs, computers, devices to operate, facilities in your condominium building, parking lots... or anything else that might be protected and controlled by card access system.

SEE EVENTS AND REACT IN REAL TIME
If you choose to be on-line (using local PC) with panels at all times you will be able to see events as they happen. Every person passing through the doors controlled by readers will pop up as line on the screen showing hour, minute, second and date, person's name and which door he or she accessed in that very moment. You can also see picture of that person on the screen. If you have complete CCTV integration you will be able to see live video of particular door location.
If person swiping a card has invalid card or he/she is trying to pass through during time which is not authorized for or he is trying to pass through door where is not allowed, access will be denied. Besides that, warning message will pop up on the screen with short explanation why is entry denied.

SEE AND USE ACTIVITY LOG
If you don't want to watch activity as it happens you still can review everything later at any, more convenient time. Each panel logs all events together with time and date. While time & attendance reports come to mind first, where you can find out how much time employee spent working in your facility, you can also see who entered which door (area) and how long he/she stayed there.
While it doesn't matter in general areas but you might want to do that for server rooms, warehouse, library, file rooms or areas of importance. If you have card access in apartment building you will be able to pull up reports about attendance to pool, gym, lockers, sauna, spa...Obviously, at any time, by click of the mouse you can prevent somebody using a sauna if fees are not paid.
