Amy is the daughter of Leo and Inez Wong, one of the richest
families on Mars. She appears to be an only child, judging from
her parents' constant urgings that she provide them with some
grandchildren. Currently studying at Mars University (her place
on the course and membership of the Kappa Kappa Wong sorority
gained by her parents' "generous contributions" to
the university rather than her academic qualifications), Amy
is also part of a programme that sees her dividing her time between
her studies on Mars and her engineering internship at the Planet
Express delivery company in New New York, Earth. She won the
position because she has the same blood type as Planet Express's
elderly owner, Professor Hubert Farnsworth, though Amy probably
isn't aware of this less-than-altruistic fact.
Although her parents are among the most wealthy people in
the solar system (owning half of Mars), and even though she has
a huge trust fund, Amy clearly doesn't have access to limitless
funds on a day-to-day basis, judging from the way she was forced
to sell her own hair in order to afford Xmas presents for her
co-workers. However, since she has a much more extensive wardrobe
than anyone else at Planet Express (see Amy
Wears...), this could easily explain any monetary shortfalls.
That, and the fact that Bender considers her a soft touch for
repeated theft.
Amy lives in what appears to be a quite luxurious NNYC apartment
building. She briefly owned a Beta Romeo interplanetary-capable
car, until Dr Zoidberg crashed it on Europa.
Amy's age hasn't been definitively revealed, but if 31st century
education works along similar lines to its 21st century counterpart
(and the evidence suggests that it does), she's somewhere between
18 and 21 years old. [The Futurama Y2Kalendar lists Lauren Tom's
birthdate as August 4th 2980, so this could well be Amy's 'official'
birthday.]
As an engineer-in-training, Amy possesses assorted technical
skills, ranging from robot repair and cleaning to spaceship maintenance.
She's also apparently a fast learner, working out how to fly
the Planet Express ship and operate its winching system simultaneously
from nothing more than a couple of hours' playing an amusement
park game. When Leela is otherwise occupied, Amy is the ship's
backup pilot. As well as the PE ship, she can drive interplanetary
cars, though her parking skills could use some improvement. She
can also use a jetpack and a jackhammer, though not necessarily
with any great degree of competence -- Amy is really rather clumsy,
which often causes her to hurt either herself or anybody nearby.
Amy's computer skills enable her to search the Internet for useful
information that doesn't have some kind of pornographic
angle -- a rare talent indeed.
Away from technology, Amy asserts that she knows how
to make love, though it's possible she might have an engineer's
somewhat mechanical approach to the process. She has also taken
a course in 20th century history at Mars University, at which
she scored a C, in keeping with the rest of her grades. Sportswise,
she throws javelin for Mars University (so she's presumably quite
good -- she's certainly strong enough to put Bender into an arm
lock), can ski and play volleyball and ping-pong, can juggle,
and also enjoys Virtual (and Virtual Virtual) Skeeball. However,
she's not very good at VR games involving combat, and this probably
applies to the real world as well, although she can walk on stilts
quite well. She seems to have no interest in fishing.
Coming from Mars, Amy is bilingual -- she speaks both English
and Martian (a blending of several Asian languages) fluently.
She also has quite a nice singing voice.
Amy is one of the nicest people you could hope to meet in the
31st century, though considering the generally low level of love
for one's fellow beings on display (certainly in NNYC) this perhaps
isn't saying too much. If anybody needs sympathy at a tough time,
Amy will be right there to help, though they shouldn't expect
to hold her attention for too long. She's extremely sociable
and friendly, especially towards men (or male-pattern lifeforms),
and knows all the best places for a night out in NNYC. She's
also very down-to-Earth, or Mars, or wherever, disliking any
form of pretension. If she has any flaws, they're that she's
vain, superficial, naive, gullible, a bit tactless and has a
faulty sense of pattern recognition (or, in Bender's words, is
a "moron"). In addition, Amy is upset incredibly easily
by criticism and insults. Even though she's friends with Leela,
and seemed pleased to be asked to be maid of honour at her (aborted)
wedding to Alkazar (she had the same role at Fry and Leela's
time-skipped wedding as well), Amy feels intimidated by her;
on the other hand, she thinks she's a lot cuter than the cyclops,
and is willing to put her right -- mockingly, if she considers
it necessary -- on matters of fashion.
Amy is quite the romantic sort -- she gets incredibly moved
by soppy songs, and despite her string of one-night boyfriends,
what she really wants is sweetness, love and affection.
Amy disapproves of hardcore Internet filth, much preferring
regular Internet filth, like Leela. She also wasn't impressed
that Bender put faked nude pictures of her online, yet didn't
notice that the body attached to her head wasn't hers.
Amy is somewhat embarrassed by her parents -- both by their
wealth, which she prefers not to talk about, and their conspicuous
lack of taste. Then there's the whole grandchildren thing as
well. Because of this, Amy prefers to spend her holidays with
her workmates than her family. Amy's parents also keep on at
her to be more 'ladylike', which she's not into at all.
When she's asleep, Amy has a slight (but cute, naturally)
snore.
Amy has eaten not one, but two extinct species -- cow and anchovy
(though she spat the latter out after one bite). She has got
an obscene tattoo, which is generally agreed to be both funny
and cute, on the upper part of her left arm. [The tattoo isn't
always visible even when Amy's got bare arms, but this could
be down to primitive low-definition TV reception!] For a short
time, she had Fry's severed head attached to her left shoulder
in order to keep it alive after it was accidentally separated
from its body. After it was removed, it left a disfiguring scar,
though seeing it reminds Amy of the fun she had with Fry. She
is the only member of the Planet Express crew that Professor
Farnsworth trusts to look after his false teeth, possibly not
the wisest ever decision on his part.
Amy's main interest outside of work appears to be having a good
time, generally in places with music and dancing and men, although
she's also a serious fan of soap operas like 'All My Circuits'.
In conversation, she enjoys talking about stuff and junk. As
a student, she also likes certain things for their camp value
(such as rings or the Moon). Her favourite foods include bisque
and dolphin flukes, though she's not keen on coffee. Amy is quite
curious about hemp and its uses, though as an engineer she seems
more interested in its practical than recreational applications.
As a child she always wanted to be Miss Universe, although she
was worried enough that she might be too cute that she
had cuteness reduction surgery on her cheeks and nose. (Not that
it worked...) Designer lingerie is something she likes so much
that she regularly orders catalogues. For a spot of sensual relaxation,
she likes to get back rubs with massage oil, even from Fry.
