A GLIMPSE OF THE PAST

In September 1950, Mrs. Pilar Hidalgo-Lim of the Centro Escolar University and President of the national organization of the PHILIPPINE ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN (PAUW) came to Naga City, upon the invitation of Dr. Dolores Dy-Liacco- Imperial, to organize the local chapter of the said organization. About 20 ladies attended the organizational meeting at the SUGAR BOWL. Mrs. Remedios Adriatico- Guballa, the wife of the Provincial Commander Col. Macario Guballa, and Economics Teacher of the Camarines Sur Provincial High School was elected the first president of the 

PAUW, Camarines Sur Chapter. After her term another educator, Mrs. Leonor Dy-Liacco, was elected the next president. A doctor, a judge, a singer, educator, businesswoman, and a succession of other dedicated professionals headed the organization. The membership of the association is a motley group…the young and the not so young, the conservative and the modernists, the active and not so active but this notwithstanding the members are united in their efforts to promote the welfare of the women in general and that of young women…especially college students in particular.

In pursuance of the objectives of the PAUW, the Camarines Sur Chapter sponsored a 4-year degree scholarship to Andrea Redota. The organization also organized panel discussions, lecture-meetings and oratorical contests on current important topics of the times. A Fashion Show on the Evolution of the Filipina Dress was one of its socials. It also sponsored a Lecture on Chinese Arts by Mr. Benjamin Dy-Liacco who had studied for six years in China. It likewise organized an Art Lecture and Art Exhibit by the University of the East Grupo Guhit. Recently, the members went on a Cultural Tour to Visayas and they saw the San Juanico Bridge ...
