watchers_in_the_night.html WATCHERS IN THE NIGHT A child lies sleeping cuddled up in his blanket sweet dreams dancing in his young mind Deaf to the storm that rages outside his window blowing the trees this way and that Somewhere close by a thief lurks watching the house until the last light flickers off but as he starts to approach he suddenly turns about face thinking the risks outweigh any possible gain Worries and fears flourish elsewhere but as the boy dozes only pleasant thoughts enter his mind All through the night he rests comfortably Unaware of the angels hovering protectingly around him the watchers in the night An angel spreads his wings protectingly over the peacefully sleeping child buffering out any possible night terrors Another one stands vigilant with his arms outstretched supporting a spear just in case some demon or monster show up to disturb his sleeping charge Cupped in his right hand a flame flickers lighting the napping boy's room revealing the truth it's brilliant spark the everlasting light of Jesus Ever observant an angel glances at the slumbering child and tucks him in again Nothing will harm him as he sighs into another satisfying dream Thanks to the watchers in the nightdrawing "WATCHERS IN THE NIGHT" by Thomas Blackshear poem by Paul Vernon Deffendall March 17, 1995 PREVIOUS POEM NEXT POEM BACK TO FADED GLORY
