Harry Potter and the Philosopher's / Sorceror's Stone
Eleven-year-old Harry Potter lives with his horrible
aunt, uncle and cousin, until he gets a letter from the Hogwarts School of
Witchcraft and Wizardry and discovers he's a wizard. At school he meets new
friends and learns charms and spells, being happy for the first time in many
years. But besides magic and adventure, he also finds a great, yet terrible,
destiny waiting for him.
The book was originally called Philosopher's Stone, but it was changed to
Sorceror's Stone in the US edition as this title would probably appeal to young readers
more. Rowling accepted this change but she now regrets it.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry's second year at Hogwarts is about to begin when
a house-elf, Dobby, warns him that a great danger awaits him there. Things
weren't going so bad as they could have ─despite a self-conceited Defense
against the Dark Arts professor and a ghost haunting the girl's bathroom─
until some of the students appeared turned to stone ─ and many suspect Harry
Potter.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
The infamous murderer Sirius Black has managed
to escape Azkaban, the wizard prison. He killed thirteen people during the
full light of day, and he's said to be Voldemort's right-hand man. The defeat
of Voldemort by Harry was Black's defeat too. And the Azkaban guards heard him
muttering in his sleep: "He's at Hogwarts... he's at Hogwarts."
Now even Hogwarts isn't a safe place for Harry anymore. Someone might be
letting Black into the castle...
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
There are lots of things on Harry's mind this
year: the Quidditch World Cup and a mysterious event at Hogwarts the adults
won't talk about, besides schoolwork, a new Defense Against the Dark Arts
professor with a magical eye, and the memory of last year's events. But will
Harry be able to enjoy all these things, or will he, as so many times before,
encounter danger and peril?
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry's dreams are often haunted by a mysterious door
at the end of a corridor. There's a new Defense Against the Dark Arts
professor more hateful than any. The end of term Ordinary Wizarding Exams are
nearing. The Ministry of Magic is no longer reliable. And, on top of all,
Voldemort's power is steadily growing. In this book Harry's in the middle of
his teens and his anger is bubbling up inside him.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Harry and his friends are in the middle of their teens
now, with all that implies - including falling in love. Their classes are
harder than ever, and they have to spend every free moment studying.
Dumbledore has started giving Harry private lessons, where he will learn more
about You-Know-Who's past. On the other hand, Draco Malfoy has been acting
strange lately, and Harry suspects he's a Death Eater. And now everybody knows
Voldemort's back, days are getting darker for everyone.
