Player the Pats may Take in the 2nd Round
Players Pats may Take in the 3rd round
Player who may interest Pats on day two of the Draft
I have listed several players I think the Pats might still me interested in. I was disappointed with the Draft today, but getting a Number One pick from Baltimore could be a great move next season. If they start Boller next season they will stink. No matter how good a QB turns into, during his rookie season he stinks. The Pats could end up with a top 10 pick. I would have liked to have had more immediate help for next season, but any time you can trade a pick in this years draft, for a pick in a higher round in next years draft you have to do it. I believe Ty Warren could turn into a pretty good Nose tackle. I liked the Pats taking Eugene Wilson. And I won't criticize and WR Belichick takes in the 2nd round, after crying out, "Who the hell is Deon Branch!" during last years draft. The Pats still have a lot of players to go. I think this could be a great draft if they continue to pick up some players on the second day. I believe there are still number of impact players left on the board.
Here are the player who have not been drafted yet, who I had projected in the 2nd round:
Dennis Weathersby- First round talent who was shot this week. I had him going 16 o KC, and they could easily take him just ahead of the Pats at 47. He could be the steal of the draft in the second round.
Rien Long- Ran a 5.4 forty and plummeted out of the first round. Another big injury concern, but he was the Outland Trophy winner last season, and had 13 sacks form the DT position. As miraculous a recover McGahee's knee injury has been, Longs recovery has been a disaster.
He are the players I had projected as possibilities for the Pats in the 3rd round, who are still on the board:
Bradie
James – What player has made the most tackles in the Belichick Defense
over the past 2 years? Bradie James – 260 tackles including 147 last season.
He has a reputation of making the Bid Play when his team needs it, and is team
leader.
Lee
Suggs – Knee injury took away some speed, but was still running 4.4 in
the off-season. Ran for 1325 yards, averages 5.2 ypc and had 22 TDs
Jarret
Johnson – He is a Belichick player. Hustler, self-started, tough,
never gives up. May have to play a 3-4 end and he will play in NFL. Lacks top
Athletics but maximized his abilities every game.
Justin Gage – Would be a steal of the draft in the 3rd. Pats may take him if they stay at 50. Played Basketball at Missouri so he had not committed completely to football in college. Ran a 4.5 at 6-4, 218 lbs. Great athlete who is still getting better. I think he would be perfect for the Pats.
Here are some player I thought would be interesting sleepers on the second day, who are still on the board:
Matt Wilhelm ILB- Very productive and has the size Belichick likes in a LBer, 6-4 245. Then he runs a 4.67 forty and may not make it to the second day. Last season he lead the Ohio in tackles 121, 19.5 for losses. He is middle LineBacker, which is a need for the Pats. Plus he is football smart, making the Defensive calls for the Champion Team.
Clifton Smith LB- I think he's a very underrated Linebacker who would be an interesting 4th or 5th round pick for the Pats. He lead the Big east with 135 tackles, and he had 15 TFL and 2 sacks. Has good size 6-2.5 at 255 pounds, and descent speed 4.8 forty, but he plays faster.
DeJuan Groce CB- he is an experienced cover corner who doesn't have the size to be a consistent starter in the NFL. But he could be a terrific nickel corner for a long time, like Ray Mickens. What seperates him from the rest is his amazing Punt Return ability. He should be around in the 4th and 5th.
Kevin Garret CB- Another too small guy, but he has exceptional speed. Ran a 4.34 at the combine, but is only 5-9 194 pounds.
Matt Walters DT/DE- Played next too Joseph on Miami's great D-Line. He is small, but has great strength (did 30 reps of 225 LBs), and plays all out all the time. He is my number one sleeper pick. He's 6-4.5, but only 275 pounds. He could start out at D-End on the strong side in Belichicks 3-4, and as he gains weight naturally he could move inside. I could not pass on him in the 4th round, and would think a lot about him in the 3rd.
Kindal Moorhead DE/DT- Over sized underachieving DE, who maybe perfect in as a 3-4 D-End. His best season was his senior year, and he improved each season. He came to Foxboro and interviewed with Belichick, who appears to be high on him. Could be a great pick in the 4th or 5th round.
Antonio Garay DE/DT- Excellent player for BC who has had injury problems. Aother player who could be a great one, but can't stay healthy. He reported he was 100% healthy now, and ready to start next season. At 6-3 295 pounds he can play DE or DT. Maybe worth a risk in the 5th or 6th round.
Jordan Black OLT- Hard working LT for Fighting Irish. He could end up as a starter on a lot of line in the NFL. I think he could be a second day steal.
Walter Young WR- Huge WR, 6-4.5 and 217 pounds. He shoudl still be around in the 5th or 6th round.
Chas Gessner WR- Interesting kid from Kraft's Alma-mater, Brown. Interesting combo of size and speed- 6-5 210 pounds, and has 4.56 speed. He will be worth a gamble in the 7th round.
Here is the list of forth round picks with the players each has taken, for those of you sick enough, like me, to be doing a mock draft for tomorrow. The Pats still have the 177th pick and the 128th pick:
| 19 | 154 | New England (from Houston Supplemental Selection) |
| 22 | 157 | New England |
| 11 | 225 | New England (from St. Louis) |
| 20 | 234 | New England |
| 25 | 239 | New England (from Indianapolis through New Orleans) |
