4, or 5, or 6, or 7, Reasons To Watch The Second Day

Players On The Second Day.

There are always some Gems hidden in the dirt of the second day of the NFL draft. First there are several large receivers who maybe able to help this team a year or two down the road. ANd their are some interesting Corners as well. Here are a few I think the pats maybe interested in. Starting in the 4th round:

Billy McMullen WR- He played at Virginia for Belichicks buddy Al Groh. He's 6-3.5, 210 pounds and ran a 4.5 forty. He's a big possession receiver who was very productive the past two seasons. As a junior he lead the ACC in receptions (83), receiving yards (1,060), and TDs (12). He wasn't productive last season, 69 for 894, for a number of reasons, but if you look at what he did two years ago he could be an interesting 4th round pick.

Matt Wilhelm ILB- Very productive and has the size Belichick likes in a LBer, 6-4 245. Then he runs a 4.67 forty and may not make it to the second day. Last season he lead the Ohio in tackles 121, 19.5 for losses. He is middle LineBacker, which is a need for the Pats. Plus he is football smart, making  the Defensive calls for the Champion Team.

Clifton Smith LB- I think he's a very underrated Linebacker who would be an interesting 4th or 5th round pick for the Pats. He lead the Big east with 135 tackles, and he had 15 TFL and 2 sacks. Has good size 6-2.5 at 255 pounds, and descent speed 4.8 forty, but he plays faster.

Angelo Crowell ILB- Was a tackling machine for Groh at Virginia. This past season he broke his own record with 154 tackles. He is undersized at 6-1 and 237 pounds, but run under 4.7, and his production in a Belichick type defense is important. He could be a steal in the 4th or 5th round.

DeJuan Groce CB- he is an experienced cover corner who doesn't have the size to be a consistent starter in the NFL. But he could be a terrific nickel corner for a long time, like Ray Mickens. What seperates him from the rest is his amazing Punt Return ability. He should be around in the 4th and 5th.

Kevin Garret CB- Another too small guy, but he has exceptional speed. Ran a 4.34 at the combine, but is only 5-9 194 pounds.

Matt Walters DT/DE- Played next too Joseph on Miami's great D-Line. He is small, but has great strength (did 30 reps of 225 LBs), and plays all out all the time. He is my number one sleeper pick. He's 6-4.5, but only 275 pounds. He could start out at D-End on the strong side in Belichicks 3-4, and as he gains weight naturally he could move inside. I could not pass on him in the 4th round, and would think a lot about him in the 3rd.

Kindal Moorhead DE/DT- Over sized underachieving DE, who maybe perfect in as a 3-4 D-End. His best season was his senior year, and he improved each season. He came to Foxboro and interviewed with Belichick, who appears to be high on him. Could be a great pick in the 4th or 5th round.

Antonio Garay DE/DT- Excellent player for BC who has had injury problems. Aother player who could be a great one, but can't stay healthy. He reported he was 100% healthy now, and ready to start next season. At 6-3 295 pounds he can play DE or DT. Maybe worth a risk in the 5th or 6th round.

Andrew Williams DE/OLB- Another sleeper from Miami's great D-Line. Wasn't a starter, but ran a 4.6 at 6-2 and 265 pounds. Still developing player who could be a steal in the 5th or 6th round.

Jordan Black OLT- Hard working LT for Fighting Irish. He could end up as a starter on a lot of line in the NFL. I think he could be a second day steal.

Walter Young WR- Huge WR, 6-4.5 and 217 pounds. He shoudl still be around in the 5th or 6th round.

Chas Gessner WR- Interesting kid from Kraft's Alma-mater, Brown. Interesting combo of size and speed- 6-5 210 pounds, and has 4.56 speed. He will be worth a gamble in the 7th round.
