Costa Rica 2 - San Jose to the Pacific Side.
Casapagina
After our travels on the Carribean and heading into Panama we decided it would be fun to rent a 4wd and check out the pacific coast, starting with the Penninsula De Nicoya.   This rugged penninsula is scarcely popluated  )in the south= and has more beaches than you could see in a month.  We rented a fine little Suzuki named Ignis and started off to see how many beaches we could lay on in a week.  After taking a ferry from Puntarenas, possibly the worst city in Costa Rica, we headed to Playa Tambor and around the southern side of the coast to Montezuma.  The driving was great as most of the roads dissapate into rutted goat paths and our little 4wd, which was really nothing more than a hatchback propped up on  stilts, managed pretty well, especially on the 5 hour late night marathon accross the peninsula to Samara.  Here are some pics from our adventures.
The Glamour Shot of Sarah.
Orchids, Sarah was very taken with the gardens at the Hotel Aranjuez in San Jose.
The sunset waiting for the ferry to Nicoya, that's the peninsula off in the distance.
We made some friends at our first hostel in Playa Tambor...
...And in Montezuma...
...And at Isla Tortuga (this one even participated in some 'Girl Talk' with Sarah, She tried with the lizard but he scurried away).
That's me and Sarah with Matt and Bronwynn from Kansas, by way of Alaska.  They were florists so we all had a lot in common.
Bye bye, Isla Tortuga!
