Patrick's Latin American Tour - Chileno 1
Casapagina
Darryl & I arrived in Santiago on December 1, 2004.  Despite the airlines dire warnings that without and ongoing ticked we would be refused entry.  For a mere $60USD and a sheepish smile from the Chilean customs agents we were allowed in to this thin strip of land between the Andes and the Pacific.

Santiago was huge but we took a tour and managed to get some great views of the sprawl that extends all the way to the mountains that surround the city.  Here are some pictures from the first couple of days of our adventure.
So like I said, Darryl and I arrived in Santiago and hiked up a couple of hills.  This is the view from the smaller - Santa Lucia (A panoramic from the larger is at the bottom of the la casa pagina).
Two Gargoyles overlooking the sprawling city.
The Virgin Mary, also overlooking the city (Apparently, the Chilenos like to cover all their bases).
A Flower Shot, Digital Cameras are a lot of fun.
More Fun along the trail.
Darryl and I then went to Valparaiso (Valpo to the locals).  THis isn Valpo as I didn take any pictures there,, but his is the beginning of our walk from Horcon to Play La Luna.  Wed spent the night in Horcon, a sleepy little fishing town, and decided to hike to the nudist beach at the end of the cove the next day.  This was where we stopped along the way for a coffiee (Read: Nescafe).

Note: The spanish-english dictionary on the table.  Youd be surprised how difficult it is for 2 Gringos (pictured) to tget a little Chilena to take a photo (not pictured).
We hiked out to some points...
And Darryl hiked out to some more precarious points...alone.
We didn t find anyone on Playa La Luna, but we did find these horses...they weren wearing anything.

Note:  The lack of shirt on Patrick in this pic and Darryl earlier.
After a hard days hiking we relaxed on our terrace for a beer and a talk to our neighbours, who came all the way from the Yukon.

Note:  The lack of shirt on Darryl (and the fine pinkish hue of his shoulder).  Pats given up and put on a shirt.
The next day we were off to the Parque Ingles to see two spectacular waterfalls in the Andean Foothills.  We hitchiked out of the nearby town of Molina, a few rides, mostly in the back of pickups we were in Reserva Nacional Radal Siete Tazas.

Note:  The headscarves to shield our badly burned scalps from the Chileno sun.

Darryl wanted a picture of this tree, I think it s stupid.

What isnt stupid was the waterfalls:  Estan mui lindo!

Las Siete Tazas (the Seven Teacups)

We took a bit of a detour due to a misleading sign (it isnt that our spanish is poor).  We ended up in la Valle de Las Catas instead of Parque Ingles....

...We were adequately rewarded though.
