We ended up spending a week and a half in Buenos Aires, including New Years which was obviously marred by the tragedy in Once the night before. Still it was an enjoyable time and I was able to take a spanish course for 2nd week we where there which has helped immeasureably in being unable to express myself and missunderstood at a whole other level. In between classes and going out till all hours of the morning (it�s not so much that we were staying out late it�s just that in Argentina dinner is served around 10 - 12 and it�s considered social suicide to show up to the bars before 2 or 3 am. Speaking from experience, this makes for a difficult morning session of spanish classes), we were able to take in some of the sights that this fabulously european influenced city has to offer. |

As we were in Buenos Aires at New Years we were treated to the repeated spectacle of people tearing up their calendars (and any other scrap paper) and tossing them out their office windows! It was way cooler than this picture shows (and apparently keeps the street cleaners union in business). |

On this day we went to Recoleta a really nice part of B.A. where all the rich folks live in big houses...and when they die they build masoleums in the Cemetario de Recoleta to preserve their opulence for eternity.
Evita (not Madonna) is buried here under here maiden name - Duarte, apparently she was rich befor she married Peron. |

It�s a bit touristy and trite, but it�s still pretty cool to see tango in the streets! |

On our last day we went to La Boca, a working class neighbourhood of B.A. with colourful buildings and people that attract tourists like bees, it�s still pretty cool though and home to the most important soccer team in Argentina, The Boca Juniors...unless of course you are a River Plate fan..

We treated ourselves to and asado (bbq) lunch at this Parillada (grille) near La Boca stadium (in the background). It may look like part of a shanty town (and it kinda is) but the man knows his meat.

Thanks to Darryl�s loyal employee Bennet we went out to experience the BA nightlife on our last night with authentic Portenas Sylvana and Lorena. We ended up at a club called Sunset north of the city.
