29th.. stayed home all day.. took pics of the house & myself... Watched a few movies...

All this while, the weather had been very favorable... though the temperature was always below -5 deg C, there was no major snow or gusty winds that would cause any travel problems....

BUT worst weather was on its way... there was a snow storm heading towards the east coast.... it had already causes a lot of damage in the great lakes area... there were predictions that from 29th night to 31st morning, New York & adjoining areas would experience VERY heavy snow... I was worried about our new year plans.... Time Square...

There were reports that some parts of Arkansas had become inaccessible...

We spent the entire afternoon shoveling snow from the driveway... sprinkling salt & de-icer along the footway...

I was just hoping that my New Year plans don't screw-up..

The area around Pocono Mountains was not expected to get much snow.. just 4-5 inch.. but in New York & New Jersey, about 12-15 inch was expected...

(later, it turned out that parts of New Jersey received upto 20 inch of snow... NY received somewhere upto 15-18 inch of snow...)

The whole of 30th it snowed real badly.... there was no chance of going out.... besides since I had not covered my head while snow shoveling the day before, I had a bad throat & headache....

All TV channels showed live images of the damage caused by the storm.... More snow was expected in NY & NJ... There was so much snow that some channel showed kids practicing skiing in New York's Central Park... There were many accidents on major highways...

Inspite of all the snow, New York's Mayor (Rudolph Giuliani) made an announcement that they would go ahead with the New Year celebrations... I was absolutely delighted to hear this...
