What does a Patient Advocate do? 

Helps patients become active participants in their own care

Promotes an environment that supports patients' rights

Explains policies and procedures that patients question

Intervenes in disputes among patients, families, and staff

Investigates, mediates and negotiates resolutions to patient complaints 

Utilizes patient satisfaction data to make suggestions for improvement

Participates and leads customer service initiatives throughout the hospital
