| The year was 1998, and my 1985 Honda Prelude was getting too small for my growing family. The obvious choice for a 4-door was a Honda Accord. Oh yes, I was a huge Honda fan! After six months of searching, I was determined to buy that 4-door that day!! So I went to the local Honda Dealership and found a mint 92 Honda Accord EXR. This baby was loaded with spoiler and 15" mags to boot! It was Sunday and the banks were closed, but my bank was expecting me Monday morning with the vehicle info and the amount of $$$ I needed. My deposit, $500.00 cash, and unfortunately the salesman informed me this was insufficient to hold the car til Monday. He required $1000.00. Since there was no way I could get another $500 on such short notice, I walked away from the deal. Dejected, I drove back home with my Prelude. Along the way, I noticed a huge car sale at one the town's malls. This is an event where a handfull of dealerships get together to sell their used car stocks at great prices. I stopped in to have a look and managed to find a few Hondas. Meantime my girl says, "Hey, how about this?" I look up and what do I see? Her standing beside a bright red and very expensive looking 1991 Volkswagen Passat GL. My first impression was no way no how!! I didn't know much about VW's but I heard enough to know they were expensive to purchase and maintain. |
