Madonna Gets Her Start
Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone moved from Michigan to New
York in 1977 with dreams of becoming a ballet dancer. Madonna
studied dance with a choreographer, did some modeling and
ended up in a couple of pop/dance groups before signing with
Sire Records in 1982. Madonna's first album, Madonna, came
out in 1983 and since then she's had a string of hits, been
a major influence in the music industry and become an international
icon.
Madonna's
Movie Star Dreams
Not satisfied with just being a pop diva, Madonna has tried
her hand at acting on numerous occasions. Although most critics
question Madonna's acting abililty, she continues to get roles
due to her incredible star power. Madonna has appeared in
movies like Dick Tracey, Evita, The Next Best Thing and Swept
Away - just to name a few.
Madonna The Mogul
In 1998 Madonna released Ray of Light stepping into the world
of electronica. It was a big hit - she hadn't sold as many
CDs since 1989's Like a Prayer. In 2000, Madonna blended electronic-pop-funk
to create the album Music. In 2003, Madonna tried her hand
at rapping on American Life.
Today
Madonna has complete control of her music and runs her own
label, Maverick Records that has signed artists like Alanis
Morissette, Michelle Branch and Lillix. So what's been Madonna's
inspiration lately? Looks like it's Britney Spears. Britney
Spears and Madonna made headlines when they played a little
tonsil hockey at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards. More recently
Madonna is featured in Britney Spears' new song Me Against
The Music.
Madonna The Wife And Mother
Aside from career success, Madonna's had personal success
as well - she married director Guy Ritchie, father of her
baby boy Rocco. Maddona has a daughter, Lourdes, with Carlos
Leon, her former personal trainer. Madonna's first marriage
was to actor Sean Penn in 1985. Unfortunately Madonna's marriage
to Sean ended in the big D after 4 years.
