Scuba Fun (October 2003)

August 21st - August 24th, 2004

Cairns and Kuranda, North Queensland - You have to love Virgin Blue for their cheap flights, round trip from Brizzy to Cairns, $98AUD! So I couldn't resist taking an early mid-semester break and headed up for the weekend. I spent 3 full days, each marked with something different. All in all, this place is super touristy, it's actually rather ridiculous, but you can't argue its location along the reef and rainforests. Anywho, this is what happen.

Day One: Kuranda

Somehow I took almost all my pictures here and no where else, hmmm... I'll have to think about that one, but anyway.... From Cairns, I hopped on the Kuranda Scenic Railway which takes you obviously from Cairns to Kuranda. But what makes this rather interesting is that this train takes you through national parklands, over mountains and through valleys giving you a great view of not only that, but you can look back and seen Cairns itself and off in the distance in the Coral Sea, Green Island.

A train ride later, get on the SkyRail, which gives you an aerial view of the rainforest. Yup, hop into a gondola and get the bird's eye view of plants, trees, and whatnot. That was pretty cool.

Day Two: Scuba Diving

I did another scuba diving trip to the reef, I mean I might as well while I'm here, right. Aside from getting absolutely toasted by the sun, it was another good time. These pics are actually from my first dive trip but I finally got mine developed. In my opinion the Townsville reef is nicer anyways; cool either way, it's the Great Barrier Reef for heaven's sake.

Day Three: Fitzroy Island

Because of the sunburn, mentioned earlier, I had to endure spending time on the beach in jeans and a long sleeve shirt. I swear, I'm just allergic to the sun. I did suck it up however and took a walk through the jungle and up to the summit of the island.

When everything was all said and done, what a great way to spend the weekend! I managed to work all this around my classes. Not too shabby. And now that I'm back... I'm back to reality.

-The End-
