In an attempt to try and classify our cases on the amount of information we have we use the following methods. While this is how we classify now it may not be how we will classify in the future.
To consider a place haunted we must have data recorded on either audio or video or both. These images and audio must be pristine, i.e. they must not be easily reproducible by human means with video this is not so much of a concern as audio. Witnesses should be credible and without prejudice. More than one witness to the events is also helpful.
We have collected data that suggests that the events might have a simpler explanation than the paranormal. While this may suggest human involvement it might also suggest the willingness of people to believe in the paranormal as an explanation rather than as an explainable everyday event
To be classified as unexplained just simply means we cannot rule out human interference but it would be unlikely. This also means we could gather no data while there. These maybe cases we can come back to at a later date for further research and examination.
We witness or identify people perpetuating a haunting or myth
