My Other Sites                                    The Dark Room

As I entered into the doctor's chamber, I smelt a very salty smell. I always find that particular smell even in these days when I enter into a hospital or in a doctor's chamber! The doctor had managed to decorate his room in a quite tidy, well-furnished way! Well! there's this famous painting of "Sunflower" by Van Gogh. I'd the privilege to check out quite a few of those in various exhibitions before that incident! The doctor had become quite a bit older than I thought.
I still admire him as a person, as a father. Sometimes, even my mom comes here to show her gratitude towards the doctor for what he has done to my health & to my family. For instance, he single-handedly saved my life while I was suffering from cholera at a very early age & the other doctors thought that I would die pretty soon! All the previous doctors failed when my parents got me admitted there.
This time, we both shook hands. His hands were soft, smooth but cold. After twenty-five odd years, I have come to meet him. Well! The signboard is still there. Nothing has changed at all! He asked me to sit down but surprisingly I couldn't find the goddamn chair!
Oh! He's very delicately clean-shaved! I found a shade of green on his face especially where the beards grow! But, his face looked very dry & pale. He smiled & asked "So, what brings you here? By the way, tell me your name first." He took his pad very professionally. I had no answer ready for his professionalism! Suddenly I started to shiver & sweat profusely. I got very nervous & embarrassed. At that moment, I understood that the doctor had changed a lot & he couldn't recognize me! I felt sorry for myself & also for him. By the moment, I recognized that he had changed a lot; the chamber had become a gas chamber for me!  For some reason, I couldn't stay there any longer, so without saying a word, I left the dark, toxic room as soon as possible!!
