Whether my car is running or not, I am going to the POCA Las Vegas Rally 2002.   OK, so it is only a few weeks away, sometimes one works better under pressure.
For details up to this point, visit the previous installments to the restoration story of my car.
The story takes a big jump in time.  Why ?  Well, If you knew the whole sordid story, you would cry.  I did.
I had to rescue the body back from Nevada, and then a long drawn-out legal action was necessary to recover some of the removed parts.  The rest were just gone.  So during this jump in time, the biggest task has been replacing all the needed parts.   It is the little things that add up, and Ive now spent more than the car even cost to buy !  This is sad, but true, and all too common in restoration stories.   Ive been attending the San Diego Swap Meets, the PCNC Swap Meets, following the DeTomaso Forum, watching the internet, talking to friends, and locating parts everywhere.  Its hard to stay on a very limited budget, and it has taken a long time.
While locating parts, Ive worked on the brakes, the cooling, the steering, the battery box, and other areas.
Attending all the club events I can, and hosting quite
a few events, has taken up all my Pantera Time.  But the car is not much fun just sitting in the garage, so now it needs to be completed.
The bodywork is mostly done.   I need a body shop I can trust, and one I can afford, to finish the last details, then prep and paint the car.  Once it returns home, painted, I have numerous tasks that need to be completed before this project is a drivable car again.  More on this later.
I have been asking around for recommendations for a body & paint shop, and in the Bay Area, its tougher than you think.  The plan is to narrow my choices to 3-4, then borrow or rent a trailer to haul my car to each shop to give them a good look-over, and walk away with a hard, written estimate.
Im still undecided on the color, well slightly undecided.  The car is almost paint free, door jambs, trunk and hood etc, so if I were to choose another color, now is the time.
Thinking about the paint job reminds me, Ill need to obtain some new rubber parts.  The windshield gasket, trunk gaskets, and engine bay gaskets are all common replacement items.
I also need to decide on hood vents, and a front air dam or spoiler.
What will tomorrow bring ?
