Here is one last one before painting. The final touches are applied before the base coat of paint. Then a sealent coat is applied, followed by the base coat of color.
After the color base coat, several layers of clear coat are applied, with wet sanding between layers. The first clear coat needs to go on within a few minutes of the last color coat. The color looks white at one angle, then silver, then finally a blue tint can be seen. I had to limit entry into the booth while it was getting this layer so I introduced no lint or airborn dirt to mess up the finish.

One won't really be able to evaluate the color until it gets the clear coats, then some glaze and I get more images of the completed job. Stay tuned.

It looks quite a bit more RED now !
One might think that red is a popular, or even common color, but if you have read some of my recent reports of club activities, you'll remember that I often comment on the "most popular color" at the event. So far, it has been, white, black, white, yellow, white, yellow, and yellow. If you are thinking that the same people (and cars) show up at any event, and skew the results, that is not true !
My car was originally (factory) red, then it was repainted black, then perhaps silver, then red, and another red. When I took it to bare metal, those are the colors stripped off. Since the minor accident that started my retoration, I've wanted to return it to the condition and color it was when I bought it. I like yellow, it was my second choice, and 'oddly' white as a color grew on me. I considered blue, having always liked Ford (Cobra) blue, and not having owned a blue car before. I really like Jim Saxton's blue, (and the white stripes) but wanted to be different, yet not something "weird" like iredecent purple like the Ford Probe. Being that yellow, white, and blue are currently so popular I chose the traditional red. Stay tuned for the images of "pick up day".
