Born in a family of traditional flute players of
Varanasi. Pankaj Nath and Paras Nath have shown a remarkable
inclination towards music from childhood. They started their
training in the field of this most difficult wind instrument
from the age of five, under the expert guidance of their
father Pandit Amar Nath (a renowned flutist himself). Both Pankaj Nath and Paras Nath have inherited
flute playing, as this has been a regular feature in the
family for the last four centuries. Pankaj Nath and Paras Nath
gave their first flute performance together at the tender age
of nine. They have also given many successful solo
performances in Doordarshan and Akashwani.
Recently they accompanied their father Pt. Amar Nath in
Indian Classical Festival.
They performed under the auspices of their illustrious father,
but their own musical maturity was phenomenal. One of their
remarkable solo performances was in “Yuva Mahotsava” held
under the
auspices of Sahitya Kala Parishad.
The
immaculate coordination between the two in the duet flute
performance is one of a kind. Infact they are the only ones in
North India to represent the vocal jugalbandi (duet) style in
Instrumental Music. They have excellent command of their
instrument, clarity of expression and delicacy in tone,
marvelous "Tans" excellent "Gamaks" and
melodious "Alap" of Ragas are some of the features
of their flute recital. With their immense skills, imagination
and energy, they are heading to achieve the status of duet
music to the heights rarely heard before.
