Hennek�s Coming to America

My research brings five HENNEK Families to the Shores of America from Oppeln Selesia area -now in Poland.

1. The first to arrive was Mary HENNEK daughter of Andreas HENNEK and Cathrina BERNARD of Halbendorf and Jacob SCHICHTAson of Michael SCHICHTA and Barbara BARON. They came about 1873/74 and settled in St Anna Stearns County Minnesota. they proably married in Oppeln and then came to these shores. Their first child Peter was born in Minnesoa (1875)
2. On 12 June 1881 two HENNEK families landed in Baltimore Maryland on the ship Liepzig from Bremen Germany. #364 on passenger list -Paul HYNEK with wife-Catherine and Children-Pauline-Barbara-Nicholas-Johann-Simon-Thomas-Anna(born on boat ). Paul was son of Andreas HENNEK and Catherina BERNARD- brother of Mary-(above). Catherina was daughter of Simon KUTZMANN and Franciska LANGER and the widow of Christian GONSHIOR. Their daughter was Pauline (above) married Frank KORNECK.
3. #294 on passenger list -Albert HYNEK with wife Marriane(1) and children Marriane-August- Mathias- John( not listed)-claim he was born on boat does not match birthdate-may have babe in arms and not counted. Marrianne (1) nee SCHNOBER was widow of Sam WALDREA and Marrianne was their daughter. The 1885 Federal Census finds both families settled in Avon(St Anna) Stearns County Minnesota. Albert was son of Johann HENNEK and Maria KANIA.
4. On June 1887 the ship "USS Maine" arrives in Port of Baltimore with Joseph HENNEK wife Barbara-nee KOTULLA with daughters-Catherine-Francis-Hedwig (Hattie)-Anna (it is said that Anna cried from shore to shore). This family came to Minnesota and joined the other families in St Anna area. Joseph was son of Johann HENNEK and Maria KANIA of Niewacnik Twsp Falkenburg Opplen and a brother of Albert -above. Barbara was the daughter of Jacob KOTULLA and Johanna DLUGOS.
5. The only lead I have on the fifth family is a postcard dated 1909. from San Benito Texas. It was mailed to my Grandfather Matt from his brother Thomas who stated he was visiting with the HENNEK family.Front of card was picture of a row of houses with arrow drawn to to show HENNEK home.
