shows the finished ring, with the ds's and picots on the needle.
shows the needle thread being pulled through the ds's, just like you
did for the ring.
NOW this is where it is different for the chain,
you
DO NOT pull the needle thread through the loop.
shows that you just pull the needle thread straight through the ds's
and make sure they are pulled up firmly.  The chain should form
an arc, like a  the letter "C".
shows the 1/2 knot needed to anchor the chain.
(also called the shoe lace trick).
shows the completed ring and chain, sequence.
NOW FOR THE PICOT  JOIN
The picot join is ......( a joining through the picot of a ring or chain.)
see last image.
When you see the "+" sign  or the word "join" in a pattern, that means,
you do a join, where ever the pattern tells you to, it usually tells you this
in brackets at the end of the line.....ie...(join to the last picot of prev. ring)
This where you may need the small crochet hook, to pull the thread
through the picot.  It can be done with the needle.

Here is how you do it....pull the
BALL thread through the picot to be joined,
and form a loop on your needle, and tighten to the tension of your other
ds's as if you were doing the 1/2 of a ds.  This can be counted as a part
of your next ds or not, as long as you are consistant through out the pattern.

Continue until you have completed the ring....You should have two rings
and one chain completed, now do another chain, and continue.
This will give you a nice little edging.
