Bid goodbye to the former eight subjects and welcome the five basic subjects as the Department of Education pushes a more comprehensive learning system that will develop our skills in higher intellectual and creative thinking.

During the visit of the former DepEd Secretary Raul Roco to the Leyte province, he said before the eyes of hundred mentors and dignitaries that it is indeed imperative to rnew the educational system . A part of these changes is to reduce the number of subjects. He also stressed out that teachers should use a uniform learning material in our country; that is a reading material in Leyte should be the same as that in Cebu City by content, thickness and its appearance.

We believe that we deserve this kind of program. To befriend and familiarize this is a must in order to gain good grades. Thanks to this new program, at least , it will ease our longtime burden. The introduction of uniformed learning tools will also help erase pecularities. We're pretty sure that this could help achieve a high degree of learning and enlightened commitment to the national ideals.

The five subjects Mathematics,English, Science & Technology and Filipino are retained. The MSEPP,TEPP and Social Studies joined as one as MAKABAYAN, a subject which according to the former Secretary, is concentrated on values sensitivity, patriotism, health and community awareness. The eight before becomes five hours which means that one hour is alloted in every subject while the Values Education is recited once a week only.

With a relatively few modified subjects, students themselves will likely become productive and more devoted to students' work. BEC could result a competitive and highly responsible students that play a gargantuan role to help our slumping economy. Could Roco be hailed as our savior?

Students who are popularly known as the hope of the nation are now putting themselves into many vices. It cannot be denied that these youngsters do engage in cigarette smoking, others go wild in drinking alcoholic beverages, while it is true that some of them managed to acquire themselves on this prohibited drugs.

The truth is that these vice-engaged students are still under their parents' custody which only means that they're still dependent on them. Vices alone constitute to an even number of crimes, not to mention. Other circumstances that revolve around the matter. It is also the subject of the very popular juvenile delinquencies which cannot be ignored on our very own eyes.

The school commonly faces a problem on how to seek solution through to refrain those students from engaging into such vices. The school itself could suppress these undesirable circumstances by implementing rigid rules such that these students would become aware of themselves on the malignant effects of these vices.
