Changeing Fuel Filter on the 24v Cummins

This fuel filter change was done on my 99' 24v Cummins
The first step I do is open the drain valve to drain the fuel out of the canister. Slide the yellow lever to the left will open the valve, back to the right will close..

Second is disconnect the Water-in-fuel sensor located on the front side of the canister at the bottom.
Yellow lever will open and close the valve
Water-in-fuel sensor
Take a  9/16 socket and loosen the nut on top of the canister header, the cansiter will drop from the bottom so as you loosen the nut hold the bottom of the canister.

Once the bolt is loosened all the way the canister will then be able to drop from the header, I bring my canister all the way out of the engine compartment and  dump the remaining fuel that is in the cansiter, there might be some small amount of sediment in the bottom as shown in the next pic. I take a dry clean rag and wipe out the whole canister. Then fill it up with clean fresh diesel fuel and then pour it back out insureing that there is nothing in the cansiter.

The fuel filter will most of the time stick to the top of the canister lid. Just grab and pull down, make sure you got something under it because the  filter is still soaked with fuel.
