PAKISTAN SUGAR INDUSTRY HOME MATERIAL PROBLEMS
RAW MATERIAL:
The major
raw material of this industrial sector is as follows:
In
Pakistan sugar is produced from sugar cane and in some areas sugar beet is also
used for sugar production.
During
last 5-7 years due to the shortage of sugar cane in Pakistan government allowed
to import the raw sugar which is inducted in between the process and refined
for the final product.
Poly
propylene bags are used for refine sugar packing.
Certain
chemicals are used in the production for refining the sugar juice and
converting it into refined sugar crystals. Some of the chemicals are Coagulant,
Teloflat, Teloflak, Sulphuric acid e
Manufacturing Process:
1) Sampling
2) Cleaning
3) Slicing
4) Diffusion
5) Purification
6) Evaporation
7) Crystallization
By-products of sugarcane:
1. Bagasse
Bagasse,
the residual woody fiber of the cane, is used for several purposes, for example
fuel for the boilers, production of
numerous paper and paperboard
products and reconstituted panel boards and as a raw material for production of
chemicals.
2. Filter cake
Dried
filter cake is used as an animal feed
supplement, and fertilizer.
3. Molasses
Molasses
is produced in two forms: inedible for humans (blackstrap) or as edible syrup.
Blackstrap molasses is used primarily as an animal feed additive but also used
to produce ethanol, citric acid, and rum. Edible molasses syrups are often
blends with maple syrup, inverts sugars, or corn syrup.
