University of the Philippines Manila

Abstract
This retrospective study tested and validated Arthur Chickerings seven vectors of student development theory by assessing college students developmental gains along the seven vectors (achieving competence, managing emotions, developing autonomy, establishing identity, developing mature interpersonal relationships, developing a purpose, and developing integrity) as outcomes of their experience in the University of the Philippines Manila (UPM). Utilizing the causal comparative research design, two groups of college students (incoming freshmen, and third year and fourth year) with distinct differences in their college experiences (independent variables) were compared with respect to developmental outcomes (dependent variables). T-test analysis for independent samples revealed significant differences in mean scores for the seven vectors of development between the comparison groups. Results supported and validated Chickerings theory.

School of Multidisciplinary Studies
De La Salle College of Saint Benilde

Abstract
The study analyzed the transition of Filipino working women to motherhood through Hopsons (1976) Phases and Features of the Transition Cycle. Participants were 30 first-time mothers who were grouped according to the Phases of Hopsons (1976) Transition Cycle. The Provisional Adjustment Group consisted of 5 mothers whose babies are from newborn to 3 months of age. Inner Contradictions/ Crisis Group were 5 mothers with babies from 4 to 6 months old. Reconstruction/Recovery Group consisted of 20 mothers whose babies were from 7 months to 1 year old. Findings revealed that the features of the transition cycle also applies in motherhood, but that it happens earlier than the phases mentioned above. Compared to the theoretical framework, uncertainty, losing confidence, confusion and depression features occurred during the Provisional Adjustment Phase and not during the Inner Contradictions/Crisis Phase. Mothers also go through this uncertainty feature due to the experience of loss of autonomous self following the birth of their babies. An integration of the new mother role to the old, autonomous self is recommended to ease the negative adjustments of the respondents in their transition to motherhood.

This paper examined the self-perceived psychological components of being athletic that differentiate coaches from physical education (PE) teachers. Further, it sought to find out if coaches are better motivated than PE teachers in terms of their involvement in exercise, sports and physical activities in certain fashions. Sixty four (64) coaches and PE teachers responded to the Athletic Identity Questionnaire, the Situational Motivation Scale and two open-ended questions. Results revealed that both groups positively identified themselves as athletic and are intrinsically and extrinsically motivated in engaging in exercises, sports and physical activities. However, PE teachers were found to lack competence or control and place little value on sports or a particular physical activity in comparison to coaches.

Konstrak Ng Filipino Self-Concept
By: Erick Vermon Y. Dy, PhD
University of the Philippines Los Banos
